The BW I just got out of the shop still doesnt feel right. I'm going to get the thumb changed yet again. Instead of only moving the thumb up on the ball, he moved it back under the fingers. And as a result my release and the way I even hold the ball is different. I just figured this out today. My Trauma feels fine, due to the fact the thumb is actually under the bridge, my BW thumb hole is offset to the left slightly, so my hand twists to hold the ball. I'm going to the guy who got my span wrong, having him completely remeasure my hand, and getting an oval thumb. I AM BEYOND PISSED OFF. 2nd thumb plug and 3rd thumb fit on this BW coming right up. This guy actually has my little brother's measurements, and I think I'll just get one like that since I throw his Shift very comfortably....man...honestly, how hard do you think it is to get someone's hand right? I had my hand completely remeasure this time too, the only difference between the way the two drillers fit, is that one offsets the thumb to add some comfort (no pinching wrist) and the other never does....gah...

Actually, the ability to "read" a persons hand is the hardest part of drilling there equipment. Is the driller using a Jayhawk ball for fitting? Those are the best in my opinion. Because you can alter the grip while its on there hand.
If you change the pitch in the thumb (reverse or forward) the span will need to change as well. If the driller is altering the pitch by more than 1/4" without changing the span, then your going to have issues.

It obviously isn't an exact science,,,, of all of the drillers in Dead Moines, 1 and only 1 can fit my ball to my hand.
An ex-touring pro in town, can't fit me at all, but my girlfriend and other people are satisfied with his ball drilling, and other people cuss the guy who can make mine fit great

Luckily, I go to a great pro shop that has people who actually listen to the customers and take the time to listen and get it right the first time. I've never had any problem at K & K bowling here in Sin City with any balls that they have drilled for me.
It's a shame that the place you went to didn't do it right not just the first time, but the second time as well. If that was to have happened to me, I would've found another place (no matter the distance) to get it done right and continue to go there afterwards.

No the driller actually altered the span by a 1/4 of an inch (shortening it up to fit correctly) and kept the pitch. Its more of a thumb hole placement problem. In order for my hand to feel right, I'm going to need an offset thumb. Might as well try an oval while I'm at it, to fix my problem with the sides of my thumb. I have so much tape building the hole into an oval, that giving a ball a bath costs me $5 between the amount of tape in the two reactive ones i have. Its insanity.
All the ball drillers I have been to in town have Jayhawks, I live in St. Louis, so its all about keeping up with the other shops for customers around here.
Another thing I cant stand is, being lectured by proshop owners everytime I get something drilled. They tell me alot of useless stuff I know. Seriously, the guy who just refit me, thought that I would be stupid enough to buy a BW without having any knowledge to the styles of bowling or how I bowl. Also he went as far to say the way i bowl is WRONG. I'm sorry but when you fit me, and drill two balls to be the same, both balls thumb holes should be in the same spot. Not one under the bridge and the other under the ring finger (i'm right handed >.>)
Yeah...he hasnt seen me bowl before either...and he was saying the way I bowl was wrong based on the fact I had knee surgery. The other proshop owner is much friendlier, gives good tips, tells stories about bowling with pros in leagues (he was friends with Dick Weber and occasionally drills up a ball for Pete Weber nowdays.), and will suggest balls to fit my style. I've made my mind up, both driller have drilled two balls for me, and the guy I just went to patronizes me. I just cant handle being talked to like I'm a complete idiot. He was telling me to keep my bowling balls clean (been doing that, although wood lanes really pick up grime quickly), goes on to talking about reactive resin being so sensitive, then throws a mix of alcohol and acetone to clean my ball on it. I almost fainted then and there.

...I guess its just rocket science :)
Most stuff should have some sort of offset.

How come you aren't rolling these balls before you leave with them? That way if there's a fit problem, the guy can SEE what needs to be fixed right then and there. I really didn't know that anyone these days just had a ball drilled and walked out of the house without trying it out. That's one of The Old Truths that I've known about forever. You ALWAYS roll it before you pay for it!

Rowdy, I do roll with em before I leave. The problem is that, it felt better because my span was so long it killed my ring finger. You dont exactly notice a release difference on your first throw.

My very first ball was like that, a brunswick zone series, I was new to bowling and didn't know much back then (over 25 years ago), and ball felt good on the practice roll. But when I went to the lanes to use it for the first time, it felt funny and I thougt it was because I was growing that it happened.
But when I told my uncle about it, he took me to a different shop he went to, and was told that the other place messed it up not myself.

So I'm gonna go blow another 25 on a thumb hole for the BW, putting me back in my quest for a Cherry Vibe...grah...oh well, it'll prevent more injury to my hand.

I had the same issues you're having. I kept tearing up my thumb from sqeezing the ball with it. I learned how to grip with my fingers and the thumb issues went away. Problem was, I shot out my fingers from gripping so hard. My release is better when I let the thumb have a little piece of the action anyway. So I went out to Walmart and bought a thick baseball batting glove. I cut the two fingers out and had my equipment fitted to my much bigger thumb. Best move I ever made. Now I can put my thumb all the way in the ball, release it correctly and not feel a thing. Just another idea for you to chew on.

i think you are just going to have to go around to different pro shops to figure out the best driller... ive had like 5-6 drillers in 2-3 yrs and i finally found the one who drills the best for me

I know what i'm getting done with the BW, going to discuss it with the driller before he does it.
There is NO pitch in my thumb hole. I also have a VERY oval thumb and want an oval hole.
So I'm going to have him plug the hole, redrill the hole his way (offset) with a pitch away from the palm to promote an early thumb release, and have an oval hole with it.
