I was bowling on a pair next to the best bowler in the area, and his younger brother. He was throwing his BW and killing it as usual. His brother however...i dont know how he did this. His brother was using a Purple Zone ball and his spare ball...a Fury. I dont even know how. I thought i was hallucinating at first, but time after time, he picked up the Fury for ten pins...it still did hook and he missed a few spares. He took all of his hand out of the Fury for spares too, he just threw it normal speed, up the back of the ball no revs, and it still hooked. So logically from the ball moving like that on its own, you'd think he'd get the hint and go get a plastic ball for a spare, then he did another stupid thing. He started using it for light oil (!?) he went from shooting 230 to 110 in one game and he was absolutely pissed off.
His brother by the way, is the best youth bowler in our state, dunno about adult, but he's by far the best youth bowler, i think 3 years running now as a champ.
Anyway...i thought a Fury was a humorous ball to be used as a spare, in your experience, what is the funniest spare ball you've ever seen someone using?

One of my teammates uses Black Widow for most everything and Total NV for 10 pins.

I saw something last season that I thought was funny. There was a guy in my Thursday night league that had a BW, Doom and Pain. He was right handed and threw them all backup ball style. And they were all drilled for it as well. :(

I've seen a few 200+ average crankers using their strike ball as a spare ball quite a bit, and it's the only ball they even throw. But the funniest thing for me to see is this one girl using a old columbia300 16 lb. white dot that had a hook added to it during drilling.
Althouh she's raised her average about 10 pins using it as a strike ball, she sometimes does manage to pick up her spares now because of that hook in the ball.

yeah i dont know anyone who uses spare balls, but at the least you'd think that kid would use a ball that hooks less for spares...not one of the most hooking balls out there lmao

The funniest thing is that she usually uses a 13 lb ball, but thanks to her ex-boyfriend, all her equipment was taken to inpound with the car. Then her grandma was letting her use a ball, and grandma took it back.

I had a team mate during the Summer league that used a No Mercy, Big Shot, Punisher, and a Vortex. He also put the same amount of hand in his spare ball as he does for his strike ball.

One fella in my centre's Friday night league uses a Storm Blue Hot Flame for his strike ball and a Real Deal for 10 pins.

I dont think it really matters whether you use a ball designed to hook, go straight, or throw it conventionally or back up, as long as you make the spares thats all that matters.
I have gone through a number of stages, with and without a spare ball, just depends on speed and line really. I can even throw it down first arrow on the left and hit the ten pin, right handed. lol

The thing is in her case, in order to pick up say the 7 pin, she has to throw the ball off the 2nd arrow from the right side, and hits it flush.
The ball was drilled to use that same 2nd arrow, and hit the pocket with it.

A guy on my Wednesday league uses his scorchin inferno for ten pins...his method is whats different though....he is a righty and cranks his wrist left to reverse hook to the ten pin from the left side...I wish I had video of him...all I know is that if I tried this my wrist would break off
