I've seen fat people bowl and they look pretty good. What do you average and high score? (Sorry I'm really curious and thats why I wanna see bowling vids of people.)

I avg'ed 190 over the summer. I've had two high games of 279, a high series of 690something (years ago... just came back to this this year) and have shot a dozen 240+ this last year with about 8 650+ series.

My biggest problem is myself. My mental game is shaky at times. I've been working on mechanics, too... release, etc, as well as getting some updated equipment to replace my older stuff.

Well you're scores are great so I bet that means you're form is good so you probably wont look that funny. Just good luck and I'm anxious to see you're bowling video when you get that camcorder.

I didn't say that it was going to stop me from posting, just that I'm a big guy and I think it looks funny when other big people bowl ;) Horrible, aren't I?

Anyway, I dug up some videos created with my digital still camera a few weeks ago while I was taking some shots to use for a bowling ally's website. The quality is poor, but the idea is there.

Disclaimer: At the time I was very tired, I had bumped my knee on something so it was all out of whack, and people were talking to me the entire time ONTOP of having to hit a button on the camera everytime I was going up with had a max shot time of 16 seconds. All these factors threw my mechanics off a bit (no/poor follow through, no knee bend due to soreness which was also thowing my balance off, etc). And my balance are is just hanging there by my side... wierd looking...

I thought that I had decent looking form (I'm a big guy also) until I saw myself bowl on video. I think that it's the impression that we have of ourselves versus the reality.

For me the reality wasn't (probably still isn't) pretty, but I've learned a few things from it. Maybe this year I'll get my 195+ average back (I've been stuck around 180 for a while now).

Well the things I notice with most larger people are them being off balance, not bending, lofting the ball far, and just all around looking ungraceful... so I assume I'm one in the crowd with that.

It doesn't help that I have a bad left ankle (doesn't pivot side to side, only foward and back, but with limited range) because the joint fused together after breaking when I was in my teens. To add to that, the same knee is alittle screwed up. Add a 350lb guy into that equation and you'll see why I'm pretty sure I look funny ;) For years I had balance issues (explained better in the following paragraph) that still surface and I think those are my worst problems (you can see I was having some in the videos posted above).

But I can't complain. As long as I make sure that my balance arm is out, that I'm kicking my leg out of the way (back, side, whatever... knee has good days and bad days which effects the bend which in turn effects where the non-slide/plant leg goes), and that my release is staying consistant I feel good about bowling most nights. My average has consistantly gone up since I returned to bowling. When I plateau or drop I'll be more worried.

But it doesn't stop me from bowling. I don't really CARE how I look, but I acknowledge that it probably isn't pretty. I've accepted that the scoreboard doesn't care, though ;)

Once I get a knee brace (still problems getting down on it after surgery...very weak still) I'll see if i can get one up...I dont play the wheel house, I play a down and in shot, so it'll be a little more variance, I'll try to do it after i get my cherry vibe, so I can show you all my shot as the lanes break down...

I can play straighter lines with the vibe and sometimes even the syntactive, but not the no mercy. Actually, let me clarify... I CAN play those lines with the no mercy, but I get tired pretty quick ;)

I look different in my videos than I feel when I'm going through my approach. I don't have any videos uploaded so I can't show my shot.

Josh, I have a lot of knee problems too. 6'5" 350lbs. here. I need to lose some weight and see if it helps, the problem is, I eat a lot and just got a kegerator (draft beer dispenser) at my house... If I could just stop eating junk and drinking beer... but who the hell wants to do that?:D

It is. The problem is you caught it on a good day as it normally leaves 10 pins left and right. Per my pro shop guy's recommendation I'm going to take it down to 2000 dull, and if that doesn't do it I'll use his recommended recommendation, 1000 polished ;) I need to create more angle coming into the pocket, but other than that it's a great ball.
