In talking to the Pro at the local bowling alley I bowl at, I commented that I had been struggeling for the last several weeks. Avg. down by about 10-20 pins. His comment was management is putting more oil down and "you don't get much hook on your ball" One thing he said was I am lofting too much need to get ball down sooner. He also suggested taking surface down to 400. That sounds way extreme. As far as I know its still at 4000. Any suggestions as far as ball surface changes.

Wow, my guess is 400 is pretty extreme, IMO. There are alot of grit between those two.

Abralon: 500, 1000 and 2000
Scotchbrite: Green, Grey and White (might be a few others)
Sandpaper: 400, 600 and 800 for sure probably goes higher.
Trizact by #m has some stuff too.

Think you get the point. You can also add some polish at the grits to narrow some of the grit gaps.

Pretty sure that my No Mercy has been down to 1000, know it been at 2000. This grits still had a good reaction for me.

Have you gave the ball a bath? Bowled the Shark at 4000 with success.

I'd try getting the ball down on the lane earlier before you change the grit.

I am working on that (getting ball down earlier) makes the most sence. Just feel bad that would be suggested by pro-shop owner. Think he just wants to sell a new ball.

Yep Tenpin is right. I would take it to 2000 and get the ball down earlier on the lane. I have my NM just boxed finish and shined that you could shave in it. It reacts great on the shark for me, but then again I don't kknow what type of realease you have. Good luck

I have personally had mine polished to within an inch of its life and also down to a fine sandpaper.

I prefer the high polish or at most a 4000 abraloning, anything more and it hooks too much.

Remember it doesnt really matter how much your ball hooks but where it does on the lane.

You dont want a ball so ruff it hooks midlane and rolls out but covers 20 boards, best to have a ball that hooks 5 boards but while it enters the pocket!

It all about the entry angle and shape of hook whether you want to add surface or take it away. This is will vary from bowler to bowler, alley to alley and lane to lane, etc.

Personally I believe the coverstock is the best thing to change for the simple fact is already atributes to more hook than anything. (Atleast 70% of the balls hook potential comes from the coverstock.)
