View Full Version : New Hammer Spare

Well, as we say in the South, I am about to kick a dried cow pile and stir up a stink. I had an occassion to e-mail the Hammer folks about something and as an after-thought, I asked about the BW Spare. The response I got was:"As for the Hammer spare ball, we are currently working on the design and development of a new spare ball. It will be available in December." Does this mean that all the hoopla we Hammerheads have been listening to and writing about for the better part of this year regarding the BW Spare is for naught? It sounds to me as though they are not going to give us the BWS but a third cousin? I am perplexed at this response.

It's all about the hype! I'm guessing there will be something with the black widow label on it released again but will it be the spare. Or maybe a No Mercy spare.
Or maybe who gives a crap, plastic is plastic buy a maxim!

It can't take THAT long to crank out the BW Spare they've been selling overseas. Hell,it's already on the USBC approved ball list! C'mon guys, you've kept us waiting long enough. I need a new spare ball and I need it right quick.:(

I'll stick with the skull ball since it is the most comfortable ball that I have, and have managed to pick up spares that my old white dot wouldn't do for me when thrown the same way. Maybe the pins are scared of the skull, but it's been working for me.

I think we've found the problem. We're victims of our own succsess. With TWO ball lines that are selling well,it makes it hard for The Powers That Be to come out with ONE spare ball. Just make the same spare ball with two different coverstocks. Problem solved!!! Now get to work on our Black Widow/NoMercy Spare ball!!!

Out of curiosity, if this clear spare ball with a black widow in it that crusher mentioned does come through.....what would you pay for it?

I'd be more interested in how they put the inserts in. Some of the clear balls around are not deemed legal.
plastic is plastic buy a maxim
Never a truer word spoken. Given that a spare ball is very unlikely to be used more than a couple of times in a game, one wonders why people feel the need for a fancy and expensive spare ball.
Personally I would love to have a Storm Soccer but at the end of the day I'm not prepared to pay that kind of money. My spare is an old silver pearl fingertip White Dot that I paid $5 for in a charity shop. Does what it's supposed to. Nuff said.

Thats what Im thinking too..I know Elite..the guys that make the PBA pattern balls sell their nib spare balls for 20 bucks.....a spare ball is a spare ball.....at least thats how I see it..but...thats only my opinion.

Well if u have a high rev-rate. I would look into getting one of the clear ones. The reason why is because it seems like they are even slicker than the maxims and white dot. It seems like they go a lot straighter.

I've heard the exact opposite of this statement. I heard the clear balls are a bit softer and pick up a bit more. So if you have a higher rev rate you should go for the maxim of the white dot or what ever...

Well, whatever spare ball Hammer does come out with, I'm gonna get so I can stop using my Black Hammer for spares. It just seems like a crime to use my BH as a spare ball.

Crusher...maybe the new spare will be your gold nugget...someone might buy one and say.."Hey I dont like this ball, maybe I can trade Crusher for his Absolute Inferno"

Really o because i've heard that the crystal diamond will hook less than the xxxl even though its the same core.

With plastic balls its all determined by shell hardness.
Blue Dot has a harder shell there fore is hooks less than a White Dot.

While it's true that plastic is plastic, some of us just want the complete set of bowling balls. I've got both Widows and would love a Widow spare to go with them. Same with guys that have NoMercy's. They just want to compete the set, too. I don't think that's asking too much from Hammer.

I know there is a site that makes clear balls...by your standard...like if you found a black widow spider at walmart on somewhere on the net...they would put it in a clear ball for you...I had checked on it a while back..and if Im not mistaken it was like 100 bucks....but you had to order no less than 24 of them to havve the ball ran down the line.

Ok, I'll find a black widow spider somewhere and order 24 of them. Then I will charge all of you $200 shipped for each ball. :D

wrong......I will never pay 200 dollars for a ball..especially a spare lol....I did think about it though...but you wouldnt make a profit at all...being not too many people will pay 100 or better for a spare even if it does have a black widow in it...so youd actually lose money.

I just emailed Brian Graham about this to see if he could give me any details. He told me that they are currently working on a new Hammer spare ball that will be in pro shops sometime in December.
