Tonight was my Robert Morris University bowling team tryouts. There was about 13 of us there. Mostly seniors, i'm a freshman. We bowled 8 games on the Tournament of Champions pattern rotating a lane each game. And i started off with the front 5 for a 200 finish. Went all downhill from there. Everything was off tonight. Kept sticking and sliding, thumb blister broke open, couldn't concentrate, etc. And i finished dead last. I'm devistated. I have a 205 average and had a 196 average in my PBA league over the summer. Thought no problem on making the team. Well i was really wrong. Said to keep practicing and i'm the last alternate.

Well what do i do from here? Ill probably look to join a thursday night league i think or something, i donno.

Sorry to hear about not making the team and having all them problems. There are times when things just don't go right. There is nothing to be ashamed of and I know the dissapointment hurts but hold your head up proudly and go on from there. You gave it your best shot. Things happen for a reason. You wuill get a chance on the team. Going into a strange house and bowling on the Tournament of Champions pattern is no easy task. It's all part of this game. like I said , hold your head up and go out and do what you do best . And that's bowl your heart out.

Keep working hard on your game. You'll get another shot at the team, either next season or perhaps sooner. You don't have an control over that, all you can do is be prepared.

to hear you did not make the team.
Where did you bowl?
Drop me a PM if you need a league to join. We have a small league, but are always looking for new bowlers.

It's done / over with . Don't let last night play on your mind. If you do, the next time you go, it's gonna affect you and just might repeat that performance. Clear your head. Chalk it up to experience. Stay focused and go out and just play your game.

Yep... X2

Atleast you got out there and tried, more than most people. Do you get to practice with the team and coaches? Did they give you any advise? If they have any coach clinic/programs sign-up. Get yourself known with the guys in charge. Get familar with they alley, find a comfort zone.

You know it was a bad day... no worries.

They will probably need you once or twice this year, when that time comes, you bowl your ass off. Earn a spot after try outs :D good luck man, I had try outs yesterday and shot 141 and 150...not good. still better than most there though hahah

I don't think a one time 8 game tryout is really fair to judge a person on. I mean ya, you should be able to go to any alley and bowl good. But if they just did a bowl.com check and look at my averages and stuff over the years, they know what i can do. But its okay

Most college coaches can spot and see things in a bowler in a very short time. Mechanics are only a small part of the game. Most of which can be practiced and improved upon. More important than just the scores you shot are attitude, state of mind, how you deal with the pressure and lane conditions and how well you can adapt to the difficult environment. At the college level you will not always be bowling on China. And you will have to face not only difficult lane conditions but demanding mental challenges as well.

Blue, colleges always bowl on sport shots, even on practice. They are looking with somebody that will be a team player and will help the team as well as have a good attitude and a good bowler.

Blue-also he's upset about doing so bad on the sport shot when he averaged 196 in PBAE league

KNow how he feels. We all been there at one time or another. The best thing is don't let it play on your mind. Letting it do so wil only create more problems the next outing. you know you what you are capible of. Hold you hea dup and tell yourself I gave it my best shot but it just wasn't my day.

Here's another reason to switch Leagues over to sport shots.

The TOC is pattern is probably tougher than most... it uses a 2:1 ratio. Think some of the PBA Animal Patterns use 3:1 or 3.5:1. And it 50 foot too.

Check out the composite and over head tabs at the bottom.

Sorry to hear you didn't get it THIS TIME. But you will next time. The pressure might have made it worse. But remember you are a great bowler. Just haveing a bad game day. everyone does. Even the pros. Just keep trying. Maybe practice when the team does. That way you can roll great like always and they will see what they are missing without you on it.:)

well since this night, ive been bowling one time. Yes...one time. Just had no urge to. Bowled 2 weeks ago with some friends...one game...shot a 234. So i guess i didn't loose what i once had. I'm going tomorrow to practice some games. I want to start to bowl more cause i don't want to give up bowling. Its really hard to join a league while i'm in college...thats just the main problem. But in my head i want to get back into bowling and i never want to give it up!

That's the attitude deadman. Once you have a love for something it's hard to get it out of you system. I had to quit for 6 years, not because of my bowling but for a leg problem. I even threw away 22 balls 10 bags, and 3 pair of shoes and said I won't ever need these again. 6 years later I came back to the game I love so much. '

Your statement "quote, So i guess i didn't loose what i once had."end quote is untrue. You never lost it , you still have it . Now go out and bowl and you will find a way to get in a league. Just make sure you play your own game and if possible find a league with a sport or PBA shots to help improive your game.
