For the past month i have been strugling with my blackwidow pearl. I have threwn it on fresh house shot oil and the ball just seems to be skidding down the lanes. I thought i was threwing the ball wrong, So i had a friend that has close to the same span and grips i do and asked if he could threw it for me and see what it does. It did the same thing skidded right out and moved maybe 2 boards at that. I take it home soak it and then sand it down to 500 then back up to 4000 with abalon pads. Took it to the lanes worked great that night then the following day it started to skidd again and not shoot back. I was wondering is there anything that i can do to fix the ball or is it compleatly dead?

Sounds like you are throwing on a long oil pattern. What is the normal THS ?

How did you have the ball drilled? If you hadn it skid/flip, it's going to go long and then make it's turn, but if it's a long oil pattern it's not goiing to recover enough. What line do you normally play. You could try moving right with your feet and play a straighter shot .

I think the oil pattern is 42 feet i think or just a bit shorter. Its a christmas tree patern im told. im two boards left of the third dot on the left hand side. Threwing the ball over the second arrow. The drilling is pin under ring finger with a cg kicked 45degrees. Ball was breaking good when i first got the ball.

I had the same problem with mine. I was ready to put it on ebay. I find it's far more speed sensitive then the BWS. I have to move way to the right and send it up the 3-5 board with a lot of hand in it and take some speed off. It's about a month old now and picks up the lane better now. Finally threw a 244 with it last week when the lanes really dried out. Before then it was all over the place and could hardly find the pocket.

Hope you can get your's working.

Thats kinda what mine is doing but even when the lanes are dring up it still doesnt seem to move much. This being my frist hammer ball im a little leary now. But as i said when i first got this ball it was one of my strongest balls. I loved it but now its hitting like i were to threw fairy dust at the pins.

I know yhou said you did this, but give the ball a nice hot bath with dawn dish detergent three times. It just may be if you are throwning on heavy oil the cover has an excess amount of oil in it. Then when you go bowling try moving righ on the approach and move your target also right and see how it reacts.

Alright. I will try this i actualy gave it a good soaking lastnight so tonight would be how to see if it works. The only thing i could think of is sunday i bowled on a heavy oil shot with this ball and it might of gained a lot of oil and im just not letting it out. It gets a greasy feeling wich normaly means its preaty well juiced. So i guess that could be the problem.

Thanks guys :)

i prolly should of added this ball is threwn about 36 games a week. so on avrage it sees about 360 frames. If that makes a different

My BWP did the same thing on the same shot. Take a line closer to the pocket on the right side (stand on 15, throw at 2nd arrow), and don't muscle it. Try to keep your speed around 14mph with medium revs and 45 degree axis tilt. Whatever you do, do not loft the ball! The ball needs every second to create friction and move left.

I would say the reason it's not moving is all speed. The BWS and BWP are speed and rev sensitive more than anyone realizes. It you put a lot of side-revs on the ball then up the speed from 14mph, if you stroke it with 45 degree rotation then stay at 14 mph or slower.

People are quick to change the coverstock, but mine is OOB with the same amount of games on it and it comes crashing in every time!

First picture shows what I mean by side revs. Second picture shows 45 degree rev. With 45 degrees, the ball should almost look like it rolling straight down the lane instead of skidding...once it finds some dry stuff it's gone because it has so much energy built up.

Other solution: Get a BWS drilled exactly the same way, and use the same line. Start with the BWS then switch to the BWP for games 2 and 3.

Dear God,save all us Widow owners from that damn Christmas tree pattern!!! I HATE that thing! Take your ball either in for some Hook Again or do the hot water deal. That should bring it back to life.

Cool thanks for the information guys. So is the christmas tree pattern a killer to the widows?

I would knock the polish off of the ball. 4000 sanded hooks 5 boards more than the Widow from what I heard.

A long Christmas Tree pattern is a bitch because theres no real midlane for the ball to read. By the time the ball starts to hook it usually hits weak in the pocket or goes wide right all together. Put a bone dry backend with it and watch guys pull their hair out and learn new cuss words!

Like what??? I guess all I know is the Christmas Tree pattern, and why is that so bad with the Black Widow? You are starting to worry me....

Yep, looks scary at first, but as long as take it down the right side with a break point near the 4 board way down the lane, it should flip in pretty hard. Warning: do not play past the 3 board too close to the heads or your ball will be cleaning the gutter. If you have to play that close to edge, make sure it more than halfway down the lane....oh yeah, and don't use a pearl for that.

One more thing: You really should clean your BW's after every league or practice. I use PH Energizer to get the funk off the balls and I do it every time without fail. Don't just wipe them off either, really get in there and take your time. My BW's still have a huge backend reaction after hundreds of games because of this.

I got some of that Energizer, and I WILL use it...I promise. I spent a fair amount of money, I want to keep it rolling like new!
