At the moment I bowl with an 12# Ebonite tornado warning an wanted to switch to a BWP to get more hook into my game (plus I need a heavier ball).
I feel like I cant get the tornado warning to give me a wide hook like I want. Now Im thinking maybe I wont be able to control the BWP maybe I should learn how to hook my ETW first and then get a ball that will make it easier.
I can hook my ETW just not a lot.

You have to remember they are two totaly different balls. First the ebonite tornado has a pancake core. The hook potetial isn't all that great even if it's a reactive resin coverstock.

The BWP has a gasmask core and it has the violent reactive cover to it.

Do not second guess the BWP. I think you will do just fine handleing that ball. Also you stated you want a heavier ball. Switch from a 12 to a 14 # ball. You won't notice that much of a difference in weight and the carry with the 14 will be decissively more than the 12 lb.

I switched from an 11# Maxim to a 14# BWP. I tried hooking my Maxim and I couldn't AT ALL. So I made the big leap, and it was well worth it. I really don't notice a huge change in weight, maybe a bit, but I notice I carry more pins than ever before. Go with the BWP.

The reason for my second guessing this is because my friend who has been bowling yrs longer than I have told me he learned to curve with a plastic ball and before I go to a violent reactive ball I should learn to get a wide hook especially with my ETW

I had the same sort of worries with the BWP. i thought it was going to hook more then i wanted it to. However, i got it drilled a little less aggressive, and its a beautiful thing. It fits my game, and i still get the hard backend other harder throwers would get with it drilled for its full aggressiveness. Now i cant believe i ever second guessed getting the BWP.

You aren't going to hook that ball as much as ther BWP no matter how hard you try. Unless the lanes do not have any conditioner on them at all it's not worth try to make it hook as much as the BWP. Two different cores and two different covers.

Buy the BWP and show your friend that he was incorrect by whipping him up and down the lanes.;)

You have a 140 average with a Tornado....the BWP with be much different. My average went way up after I got my BW's. They are truly awesome!!! My pro-shop guy told me not to mess with them until I had been bowling for a year because I wouldn't be able to handle them...I was pissed by the comment and decided to get a BWS and BWP at the same exact time.

Here's what I tell people: You don't learn how to swim by practicing in a puddle...you jump into the deep end of pool. So why would you want to kill yourself trying to hook a ball that doesn't hook. All you can gain from that is bad habits that will cause you to over crank a more powerful ball when you get it. Why try to get more hook out of something that won't hook. Work on your form if you decide to wait to buy to BWP, then when you get it work on hook. The ball pretty much hooks itself. The first time I threw my BWP it hooked into the parking lot...I had to learn control because I too was throwing a ball for a long time that didn't hook.

Get and don't look back! I have a feeling your friend will buy one soon after you do :D

Take a look at thread "Pin and Top weight for my Son's new raw anger" and see if this might apply to you. I wouldn't expect to be able to apply the same rev rate to a #14 that you can to #12.

Hope you have great success if you order the pearl...

I remember when both of my oldest girls starting using what I call real bowling balls a year or so agao, They were throwing Power Grooves and Tornado's and went to Ultimate Infernos and balls of that caliber. My oldest is 18 and bowls with me in the Friday Mens League and went from a 135 avg in Jrs to a 165 in one year with a real ball. The 13 year old who is also throwing a 14 lb went from 120 last year to a 154 right now ! She learns fast ! LOL. I think one thing most forget about the balls with real cores, is YES they hook more, but that core also helps get them down the lane ! A ball will not change direction until it loses momentum !

I wish I had been on here while I was agonizing over whether to get a new ball or just quit bowling all together. If I knew then what I know now...
I tried hooking my Maxim, there was just no way. I am so glad that I didn't keep trying, I don't think I would bowl with my BWP as well as I do now. I never ever hooked a ball before until I bowled with the BWP. And now my Maxim is sitting in the closet waiting for my son to outgrow his 6#, then he can move on up. I don't think I will ever bowl with it again......
