My proshop is having a Demo Day weekend. Hammer is tomorrow and Ebonite is on Sunday. I'm not sure if I should go. As you all know I'm a certified ball hog and going this weekend would be like a kid in the Willy Woonka factory.

The real problem is I'm in the middle of a self imposed 3 month bowling ball ban. (until Nov.) I picked up two balls this summer and outside of a true dry lane balls I'm well covered.

The one exeception to the buying ban is of course a bargain. If I go to both days this weekend I get $30 off a ball. The question is does that consitute a bargain?

Opinions please....lol

Hammer really doesnt have a true dry lane ball, dont go. I would not call the Vibe a true dry lane ball...it is more medium-dry

Ebonite doesnt really have any dry lane balls either, if I were you, I'd save up for a little for the next few months and buy a Sahara (Morich), the ball even says "Sahara, for dry lanes" on the label.

GO! I went and I had a blast. It's so much fun!!!! (If one of the Hammer/Ebonite guy's names is Rich, tell him that Olivia from Punxsutawney LOVES the ball and is doing well with it!) I would go again in a heartbeat if for no other reason than the instruction.

Hmm, Slap ol buddy you know...

You could go, you know, for the fun, and then I would just give you the money for an Anger...

Just remember, I was first to come up with this idea...dont let anybody else sway you! ;)

Drilled the same, the Sahara will ou hook the Vibe by at least 5-7 boards.

You could drill a tornado as a dry lane ball.

sorry but i would have to dissagree...

ebonites black ice and the torando series are a dry lane ball... its all depending how you drill them:)....

i can only use my black ice on dry lanes...

I was also on a bowling ball ban, and then i found a great deal on an Anger, if you really don't want to buy another ball don't go. If you could possibly want another ball, just go.

Hey slap i would go, then just say u dont really like the reaction. Or tell them you'll be back in a week or so and never go. But a lot of time u get coaching during it.

Well Slap, did you go? I am dead serious about buying an Anger if you want to do it for me.

Well, as expected I went today but I didn't buy anything.

They had the NM, NMB, BW, BWP and Toxic. I threw the BeatN, Toxic and BWP. I wasn't really impressed with the BeatN but in talking with the Hammer guys we decided the lanes were too dry for the ball to show it's potential. I had fun throwing the Toxic and BWP on the broken down lanes. Although I own both balls, it was educational to throw both balls with roughly the same drilling and surface.

I didn't get any coaching however I did get a "you roll a good ball" so that was cool. I bowled a good 2 hours so if anything it was a good practice session.

I'm going back tomorrow for the Ebonite day. They have the TNV, NVS, raid, and gamebreaker to try. I will be fun to roll these balls plus I'll get more practice time.

lemme know what the NVS does...I'm intrested in that or the TNV. But I've already made me a commitment to a ball. In December I'm buying the Morich LevRG

I heard NVS is actually earlier than TNV

I've heard the Sahara is anything but a dry lane ball. I'm not actively searching for a dry ball but my "watch list" includes a Slate Blue gargoyle, black pure hammer and AMF is re-releasing the urethane Angle. Depending on the reviews that ball receives it might be another option.

hmmm...the problem with getting old urethane balls for dry lanes (tried once, never again) is that the ones you find are all #16 because of old people getting rid of the balls that caused their elbow tendonitis lol
I know that my pro shop has a variety of old Faballs, but only 1 would be worth anything to me since most are 16's

my shop has a burgandy hammer, a red hammer, a pink hammer, a nail, and a high rev on its shelf, but only the high rev is a 15

Okay...I'll prepare a Hammerhead's review of the Ebonite equipment...LOL

rofl, yeah weird question eh? hehe....once I throw the Big One for the next week I'll put a real review up...I've thrown it on Medium so far, had to play deep, tommorrow I play on dry, and next saturday will be the medium-heavy long shot, that will be fun with the way this ball is...lol

I really liked the NVS and the total NV. I almost bought an NVS till I threw the BWP. The Raid and the Gamebreaker really did not fit my game at all and I didn't like them. Pretty, but not for me. NVS worked a lot like the BWP for me but It didn't get down the lane as nicely as the BWP.

A Hammerhead goes to Ebonite Demo Day... report by Hammertalk ball hawg Slap.

First off, I had a great time at Demo Day weekend. Hammer on Saturday and Ebonite on Sunday. If your pro shop has one it's worth the time and money.

Pattern: on Sundays this house puts out the modified house shot from our Monday night league. It's 41 feet, heavy oil shot that breaks down faster inside.

Balls (in the order I threw them. I probally threw 5 games with each.) NVS, TNV, Raid, Gamebreaker, Angular One. All the balls were drilled with the pin up, between the fingers, with MB in the strong position. OOB surfaces.

In my bag for comparison. No Mercy@ 2000, BW @ 2000 , Toxic @ 800 polished.

NVS
My intial impression- was is the great midlane? The ball barely moved for me. It hit the pins hard but it didn't cover many boards getting there. I threw inside and outside lines, nothing. I pulled out my BW and it was covering at least 5 more boards, with more midlane read.

Does the NVS suck? No, I think it was the layout and surface. I would have to drill the ball with a stronger pin position and/or knock the polish off. One of my usual partners was on the same pair. He's a stroker with slower ball speed. The NVS worked great for him.

Next...TNV
My inital impression- why is this ball covering more boards than the NVS. This ball is fun to throw! Once again, I threw inside and outside lines and this ball did what I wanted it to. It was responsive to speed and hand position changes. I threw some impressive strikes with this ball. My partner hated it...it was too long for his style.

I still don't understand why my reaction was better with the TNV. It doesn't make sense.

Next...Raid
My inital impression- Long and smooth power. A perfect control ball. This ball was a beast playing down and in on this pattern. Very impressive. I could play a small swing from inside but not too much. On a house shot I'm sure this ball would flair quite a bit.

I could see myself buying this ball. I liked the smooth, controlled motion. It's cleary a strong ball but it didn't jump off the dry, great potential for wet/dry patterns.

Next...Gamebreaker
My inital impression- Whew this is fun! I threw this ball from everywhere and it came back to the pocket. Even on this heavy pattern, the ball starts to hook in the midlane and doesn't stop. Like the TNV it was reponsive to hand and speed changes. I could swing it or play down and in (with a little more speed.) I should have thrown my NM to compare but I was having too much fun.

I could see myself with this ball. LOL

Next...Angular One
My inital impression- I should have thrown this before the Raid and Gamebreaker. Nice ball, I found good lines inside and out. It has an angular backend reaction. I pulled out my toxic and I like it's reaction better than the AO. It covered more boards on the backend on this pattern.

So what did I buy.....NOTHING. However I didn't learn that the ebonite 3 ball roller tote has an shoulder strap whereas the hammer bag doesn't. (Random I know)

What would I buy?
NVS...no

TNV...no, not unique enough

Raid...yes I don't have a solid reactive control ball. I have a particle and particle pearl that are similar but this would be a different enough to buy.

Gamebreaker...maybe It would be a battle of the midlane between this ball, the Anger and the LevRG. However chances are I won't buy any of them. (unless I find a bargain) One of my Revs culd fill this slot with proper surface prep. However I'm a certified ball hog so you never know!

thanks for reading.
