Monday Night I sub and Im at 181 which at this house Im happy with(theres no left handed shot unless you do nothing to the ball) my average there last year was 195.

I am doing so bad this year. My ending average was 146, i have a 167 i think right now. I have 4 more weeks and i have to be above 175, have to get my spare ball worked out so i can use it again.

My average at the start of this league was horrible, I started off with a 127 because I just kept leaving ten pins that day and couldn't pick them up for some reason. Now after the fifth week today, my average is 151.5 back where I should be. I keep poppin 180-200 games with my new ball. On Thursday I bowled a 212 in some practice with it. Well this league go's all the way to April, which is a long time and since my average is raising every week my average at the end of this league should be 170-185 range so my average should be atleast 165 to end this league out. I think it was a great choice to get this Doom. Today I have found many successful lines and other releases that suit this ball out well.

192 on Tuesday

201 on Thursday


I had good week so I think that Tuesday (with ~680) and Thursday (with ~638) should go up to around 204. Trying to get used to bowling with 5 people teams.

This was all with the 11# Maxim, I have been bowling consistently better than my average with the BWP. Tomorrow pm starts the first week with the BWP, and I am looking for the most improved bowler!!!! It should start coming up rapidly!

So far this year I believe I am on pace to hit my goal of 190-195. 18 weeks into this season, the lowest series I had is 504. For Saturday nights. my current average is 186 and I believe our season is 39 weeks. Fridays its 194 and the lanes are much more challenging. I started keeping stats of each bowling night last year (don't know why I didn't before)

last year, my very first league was a mini 10 week league, not sanctioned, ended with a 200. this year after a couple weeks im at 209.

Last season I ended with a 136 avg. 3 or 4 weeks into this season and im at a 165 avg. Sad thing is, I didn't practice any between seasons... I think I just realized what ive been doing wrong and its slowly just coming together for me.

im happy with them, i always aim for a 200 average when bowling... :)

This year mine has varied between around 138 and 167. Currently stands at 158. Interestingly I joined a second league late last year to try to play more games and get my average up but it worked the other way - my average dropped by about 20 pins. Gave up the second league and it's been climbing steadily since, plus I beat my previous HSG by 7 pins and now boast a 234.

Compared to most of you it's nothing special but I'm happy.

last year i finished with a 211 on friday and a 213 on wed.
currently on wed after 18 games i'm at a 210; and on friday after 15 games and unbelievable 237.33..thanks in part to a 743-715-826-711 last four weeks. waiting for the inevitable average correction...lol but i'll hold on to it for as long as i can.

He is right, Crusher. you're always saying how you "should have had" or "should be" which isn't the case. It may help that little bit of male ego each one of us suffers from, but eventually you're going to have to get over it and realise this...

You are what you should be.

We all have it in us to be better, but it doesn't mean we are. You are a 198 avg bowler. That's why your avg is 198.

Seriously, just stop making excuses for yourself ;) You are where you should be. When you get better it'll show OUTSIDE of excuses.

last year was my first year bowling in 5years and started with a 107 ended with 148. I practiced during the summer and now may average has jumped 12 pins in a few weeks up to 174. I am still waiting on my first 600 series I hope I can shoot it.

Picture if there was a graph, like for example 160-169 is a good bowler, 170-179 is a really solid bowler who knows what their doing etc. At around what average do you consider someone to be in the elite status of a league? Dont get too carried away, but you know what I mean. I used to think of it differently, but now that I bowl alot again I dont think of a 185 bowler to be as great as I used to. Do you consider a 185+ really good? Or 200+? Give opinions

Kenny I think with the new technology people can get strikes easier these days so it's easier to get to average in the 180's.

I'm a prime example of some one with (or had) a 180 average with very bad spare shooting.

Actually last night I dropped my average from 181 to 173 (shot a 559 over 4 games!). I had an off night and wasn't adjusting well on my strike shot. The unfortunate thing is I've just started a new approach for spare shooting throwing my spare ball dead strait. Unfortunately, once my strike game was off, my mental game carried over to my spare shooting and I was dropping it to the right. This whole night was embarrassing. I know I need to work on spare shooting, and I've been focusing on that but last night was a real eye-opener of how much room I have to improve.

Ya, we've all been there. I currently average 183 in both my leagues. And just like everyone else says, it should be better. I started out horrible and know it will pick up to 188-190+ within the next few weeks. I've been averaging 200+ 90% of the time I go, practice or league. But what I'm wondering is, before I got into bowling again, I would just hope that I could average close to 180 someday. But, now that I bowl alot again, I think I will become a 190 average bowler. I'm wondering how this is compared to most good bowlers? I know when I think of anyone that can average 188+ consistently, I think of them as being really good, and part of the elite bowlers even though they aren't 210+ like alot of people. Do people still think this way also or is 200 the big number? I'm hoping within the next year I can be a solid 200 avg. though

Well if they are shooting 180+ on a sport or PBA pattern, then I would consider them an elite bowler. If it's on a THS then they suck like me :D.

Need a few details...if you are talking house shot, each house is different. Some place a christmas tree pattern others more challenging shots, and then you have the sport shot and the PBA patterns. If we just work with the house shot, I would say anyone in the top 5% of the league (continually...notice continually) is in the elite status. If you require a range and of course it depends on the house conditions presented but...maybe 210 and up...good bowlers are in the next group of maybe the top 20% of the league...and so on.....note this is just my shot at answering your questions, the key to anything is each individuals own opinion...here is mine...hope it helps.

Yea I agree with you but I think that the ELITE bowlers in the league are probably like 215+ or 220+.

I would have to say I am currently in the top 10% of my league, just guessing. I'm at 185, and theres a few 190-199 avg. and only like one guy in the two hundreds. And, from what I've heard from everyone I have talked to, if you leave the house I bowl in and go somewhere else you will average at least ten pins higher, usually more. My buddy that bowls about 30 minutes from where I do owns the pro shop, and he averages about 232 in his scratch league. He says he recruits 182 and higher bowlers from my house to bowl in their scratch league, beacause when they get there they average close to 200 once the league is over and that really helps.......

another good thing about bowling compared to golf besides from the fact that u dnt lose the bowling balls is the ball comes back to you - you dont have 2 go get it

I avg 128 right now up from a 109 just 12 weeks ago. And its on it was up to 150-160 land hopefully by the end of this leauge.

I'm at 180 at the moment. A really bad series ( 450 - :eek: ) 3 weeks ago killed my average. I hope to get my average back in the 190's by the end of the season. That should come when I can start practicing again (in addition to the couple games I throw before leagues start).
