I've just had a bit of an adjustment to one of my balls (Track Crash) and the kaufman scales at my alley indicate that the ball is now spot-bollock on 1oz thumb weight which, as I understand it, is the legal max.
Q1. What are the odds on another set of kaufman scales calling it an illegal ball?
Q2. Would I be advised to install a weight hole in the lower part of my VAL (thumb quadrant)?

The odds are very good that would happen. But, you can also drill the thumb a bit deeper other than use an xtra hole ! Then you will not change your side weight

If you want to be sure find another shop that has the scale and have it rechecked.
But what I would do instead of putting a balance hole I would have a talk with the pro shop guy and go deeper with the thumb hole alittle to remove some of the weight. You won't need to go much deeper. Just enoght to remove enough to bring it just under 1oz.
One of my balls ( NM ) was just over on top weight and I went deeper with one finger hole to get rid of the weight.

Chances are not only very good, but probable that it would be illegal on another scale. There is no =/- tolerance from one scale to the next, which i disagree with but anyway,I would,as others have posted, just have the thumb hole drilled deeper.I dont have my weight removal chart with me at home but i would guess, depending on the size of your thumb,Maybe 1/8 to 1/4 deeper should do it.

If you use thumb slugs or not, here is what I would do if you brought it to me. I would go 2 sizes smaller that your thumb and take it down about 1 inch or maybe a bit more. We do not believe in leaving balls right on the limit. We never try to send a ball out with more than 3/4 oz on any measure point ! Heck, most of mine are under 1/2 and even some (Both NM's) have negative side ! With the equipment nowdays, static weight is not near as big a deal as it was before the Flaring balls came out. It may be a minimal change in reaction, but I highly doubt it. At least not to the naked eye anyway. And by the way, Greenridge is right, it will prob be illegal on another scale, but the 1/8 to 1/4 deeper will prob not be enough do to the fact that as you get deeper, the less it will effect the static weight. Now, if you hit weight block, that will help and also change the dynamics of the ball a bit. Usually for the better by my experience. Good call on this one guys, we all agreed !

The odds are probable, Ive seen balls at the OPEN pass one day and fail the next.

Hey all
For clarification I have a 1¼ slug and a ⅞ hole for my thumb.
I can easily have the thumb drilled deeper - I didn't think that it should hit the core though. If it doesn't really matter though I can deepen the hole easily enough and so avoid any future issues.
Thanks guys :)
