RENO, Nev. - On Sunday, the country will watch as the four remaining survivors from a field of 132 elite women's bowlers battle for the prestigious 2007 U.S. Women's Open title at the National Bowling Stadium live on ESPN.
The 90-minute telecast is the culmination of a five-part series that has landed the U.S. Women's Open, a USBC event, on ESPN each Sunday since Sept. 16, and a variety of efforts have been made to encourage viewers to tune in for the live finale.
USBC will continue its aggressive national marketing efforts through sources such as ESPN television, ESPN Radio, ESPN.com, USA Today and pba.com as well as the grassroots public relations campaign in the hometown of each remaining player.
However, in the days leading up to the live show, which airs on ESPN at 1 p.m. Eastern, extra promotional efforts include:
Award-winning USA Today columnist Christine Brennan, one of the country's most respected sports journalists and the sideline reporter/essayist for all five U.S. Women's Open telecasts, will appear on a dozen radio shows and stations across the country, including WRBZ Sports Radio 850 the Buzz in Raleigh, N.C., WJOX 100.5-FM in Birmingham, Ala., Sports 1140 KHTK-AM in Sacramento, Calif., and The Doug and Daddy Show on ESPN Radio's KXPN 1460AM in Kearney, Neb., and KICS 1550AM Hastings, Neb., to talk about the event and her unique opportunity to be part of it.

Along with top-flight bowling action, those who tune in Sunday will get to see a unique format, compelling feature stories, interviews with the industry's top figures and some familiar faces from bowling telecasts of the past.
Sunday's show will include the following:
USBC High School spokesperson and 20-time professional champion Carolyn Dorin-Ballard of North Richland Hills, Texas, against, Team USA member Shannon O'Keefe of Rochester, N.Y., who recently earned a singles gold medal at the Women's World Championships, while reigning U.S. Amateur champion and 10-time Team USA member Lynda Barnes takes on 11-time PWBA titlist and 1996 U.S. Women's Open champion Liz Johnson of Cheektowaga, N.Y. The two winners then will meet for the title.
The broadcast trio of USA Today columnist Christine Brennan and PBA Hall of Famers Nelson Burton Jr. and Marshall Holman offering their expertise and analysis. Burton and Holman again will use C.A.T.S. (Computer Aided Tracking System) to analyze information such as ball speed, ball angles and what boards the balls are rolling over.
USBC Youth spokesperson Diandra Asbaty, recent winner of the Women's World Championships gold medal in Masters competition, will make an appearance in the broadcast booth, and former PWBA standout Cathy Dorin-Lizzi will be interviewed.
USBC spokespeople Kim Terrell, Chris Barnes of the PBA and the Chris Paul of the NBA's New Orleans Hornets with a coaching tip about balance, brought to you by US Bowler magazine
