Hello all,
I'm a begineer bowler that is wanting to get more into bowling. I bowl usually every week, unless something major comes up. As of right now I just the 9LB house balls, I do decently with them (high game of 205). I only bowl straight, so I am looking to put some curve into my throw. I've been practicing and am now ready to get my own ball. I am debating either the Anger, Toxic (still trying to figure out if I even like the color), or Doom. I bowl at the local alleys, and they are usually mediumed oiled lanes, we go there just because they have $1.50/game night. So which would you suggest for a new bowler with the above?
Thanks, Jacob
PS - I'm looking at getting a 10LB, maybe a little light, but I'm a light guy. ha
PSS - While I am at it, has anyone ever ordered from discountbowlingsupply.com? Good, bad?

I would say the anger. It is more of a heavy oil ball but seeing that you are just learning to hook the ball I think that a ball that would hook a little more would be good for you. Also If you are going to buy a ball off the internet I would go with www.buddiesproshop.com. They have great stuff at a cheap price and are very fast shipping.

My first ball was my Toxic and i loved it. It hooked alot at first and kind of gave me some growing pains but i am glad that i chose it over every other ball.

the doom goes well on meduim lanes...
anger might be a tad strong until you learn more... i might be wrong tho...

at your level I would go with the anger (http://www.markswebshop.com) cause its more for control and smoother than toxic and the doom would be choice 2
toxic is an excellent flip ball
you need control smooth controlled reaction for predictability

I would go with the Anger also. Being you are just beginning this might be the best ball that will help you learn to hook the ball and have control of the ball at the same time.

I totally agree with Bubba (and I think Idlehour about said the same thing). Even though I'm a Widow man, they take some getting used to. The Anger is not only a smooth rolling ball, you can't beat the bang for the buck. Get it drilled for a nice consistant arc, and I think you'll be surprised how easy rolling a hook can be.

when i started bowling i used the anger. it's a good starting ball and you can get pretty decent hook out of the ball. they don't cost that much either which is always a good thing. :)

Just a question, how old, tall, and how much do you weigh? My 10 year old son uses a 10# Tropical Storm, and even this may be too light for him.
I agree with some of the others and think that an Anger might suit you, but I also heard some great things about the Cherry Vibe, but it is more for light oil, but it's also cheaper too. I did have a Toxic, but was having trouble with it and sold it. :)

I don't know about the Anger guys its not really that much of a med-oil ball. Even with the smooth arc layout. thats about how mine is set up and when the oil starts to really go away or down that baby will put in a wicked hook for a finish. But then again mine is also a really big skid/flip. I was gonna sugest a Vibe. But you guys know more than me. He should have the pro shop guy watch him throw some and then maybe help him pick what would work for him.

Age: 16
Height: 6'2"
Weight: 120lbs
Can't seem to put the weight on, haha. I'm sure I could throw a 13-15lb ball easy, but not for more than 2 games a night. Also, I don't have the strongest wrists. My brother has a Ebonite 300 (I think), it's a 10lb and I work decently with it.

I was going to do that as well, thanks for the added suggestion.
I appreciate everyone's replies!
Get a 12.
1. At your weight you "should " throw 12 or 13 lb gear. (10% rule)
2. It weight will feel strange at first, but it's your first ball so it's going to feel strange anyway. Your wrist strength will increase as you bowl more.
3. Ball construction. There is a considerable jump in performance at 12 lbs because the Diesel core is used in 12 and 13 Hammers, a generic core is used in the lighter balls.

I was actually considering jumping up to the 12lb. My plan was to go bowling Monday and play around with a 12lb house ball, just for the weight difference.
So far, even though I know a lot of you say the Anger, after reading a lot of reviews on other sites, I was leaning towards the Toxic. From what I read, it's between the Anger and Doom, works well on medium oiled lanes, and it good for a starting bowler. Bad idea? Good?
Again, thanks everyone!

Like I said before I would go wit the anger, But as for the 12lbs if its drilled right you wont even feel the difference after a couple games throwing it. Its not really dependent on your weight cause I only weigh 135 and I throw 15lbs and 16lbs.
true Idle ...balls feel totally different when they are drilled to fit your hand.

If u get a little tired with the 12 lb ball go with a 14-13 lb ball. Its a 3 lb difference really when its drilled to fit you. I cant throw a 15 lb house ball but i throw 15 lbs fine when its drilled to me.
