Hello, I would like to get back into bowling as I had so much fun being in leagues in middle school 10 years ago. I've noticed different kinda of balls these days! I'm trying to find one for my skill level and type. In middle school i used some cruddy house ball but i could hook it nearly as much as those with reactives and i had a high 180avg. In those days I recall Zones as the favorite. My bro had bought a rhino pro and i thought it was pretty nice.

I prefer a throw from the far left, with crushing hook at the end into the pocket. My style seemed to make it difficult for me to have an even curve arc from start to finish, so i wouldn't want a ball that is catered towards that style.

I've looked at a bunch of videos with different balls, trying to find one that would cater to my style. I was 13 at the time and it's been 10 years. But, I have decent revs and decent speed. I am pretty used to medium oil lanes as well as oily from all the league play. I consider myself fairly consistent, as dry/medium/oily lanes never seemed to affect my game or hook very much while using some cheap house ball. I'm 5'8" 170lbs

From the videos i watched i did like the Anger, Fury, Black Widow.
I didnt really care for the toxic, vapor zone, red zone because they seem to cater to more of an even arc.

Also, how about the weight of the ball? I cant quite decide on 15 or 16lbs. I know that 15 will be easier to swing, for faster revs, but maybe i would be less consistent than a 16lb..not sure. I don't have an issue throwing the 16 though.

Could you guys give me some insight on what else i could be looking for or any suggestions? Money is somewhat of a factor though i could live dishing out the cost for an upper end ball if it's worth it. To help, i did like the old zones and rhino pros but I know those likely can't compare to the balls of this age.

Thanks much:)
Justin

all balls can be drilled to arc of skid/snap... just depending on the drilling surface etc

but i reckon by the sounds like you need a black widow pearl... the ball has some serious backend to it;)

Well first of all if u can throw 16 no problem than go with 16. The toxic, vapor zone and red zone are pretty long with less of an arc. The fury and the anger are a bit arcer. I would specifically go with the anger and have it drilled medium hook but with the pin above the fingers. That should be good and not have a huge arc but not skid 50 feet than make a left turn.

I'd try throwing some 16's and see if that's what you want. If it is, buy either an Anger, Doom, or Toxic, they are all over achieving balls. They are mid priced (160) and all hook a great deal, much better than all other company's mid preformance, and from what I've seen from a few companies, even their top of the line balls.

I would suggest throwing a #16 pound. I would look at the Hammer Anger, Black Widow Pearl, or the No Mercy or No Mercy Beat'n. Just make sure you drill it to do what you want which sounds like a skid/flip drill.

if you want massive skid/flip the best balls for that are....Track Kinetic, Hammer's Doom, Toxic, Black Widow Pearl, Black Widow, or either No Mercy, or Immortal's Orge Pearl.

Welcome to the boards.
As far as weight goes,if you are comfortable with 16,go with 16,but remember, with todays balls, you wont lose hit or carry by going to 15sSo if you need a little lighter ball,do not be afraid to drop to 15,as long as you do not over throw it.As far as ball choices,i would say Black Widow Pearl,if thats too pricey,go with the Raw Anger, pin 5-5-1/2 from your pap,cg 4-4-1/2 from your pap.For a ball with some surface from the factory,it does not lack length, provided it is drilled properly.Worst case,it can be shined a little or made like glass to get the reaction you desire.Remember, the surface can be adjusted to create the reaction you are looking for. Also, remember,SURFACE IS THE KEY FACTOR IN DETERMINING REACTION!

Try a Black Widow Pearl drilled to skid flip. Or if you really want some backend, try a Black Widow with the layout Bubba has in his ball. There's pics of it on another thread. I've got a new BWS on the way and I'm going to put a layout simular to Bubba's in mine.

I have the TNV and it is a good ball but never really worked well for me on oil on medium it was a great ball. From what Ive seen from the NVS it is very unpredictable and I personally would not recommend it.

I've thrown them both, the Total NV is a true Medium oil ball IMO, my brother's coach let me throw his, aggressive drill, MB in the massive flip position, and it had a weak come back (playing up 10 on synthetics) leaving a washout, later after the lanes were drier it worked.

The NVS is earlier and spottier, if you want a ball that does read early, the Big One will do that (lord almighty does it read early)

well, i bought a ball. i got a used 15lb toxic on ebay, the total including shipping was $60. it has been filled and ready for drilling. looked like a nice deal so i didn't want to pass it up. might be better this way:) i wouldnt want to spend more on a new bwp to have it be my 'learning' ball, where i screw up the drill positioning. it will be here in a few days, but im off to the lanes now for the first time in several years, to throw some house balls and try to get a feel for the game again.
