i talked to an ebonite rep today and i asked him about the new ball. he didn't know what it would be called, but he confirmed that hammer was designing a ball that was clear and had a black widow inside possibly with a web. i told him that i asked brian graham about it, but couldn't get a name. when i told him about black widow clear he said that that was probably it. i don't know. i really can't wait to see though.

That would be awesome. I talked to the guy in my pro shop. He said that he really didn't know what it would be, but guessed that it would probably be something like the Black Widow Spare.

I really hope that it isn't clear. The clear balls really look horible after a very short time of use.

I Think we already know that the black widow spare is available overseas. Seams like a given to me....

They should call it the "hammerhead suckers money grub". Plastic is plastic. The hype and the price of this spare ball are ridiculous. I sure love hammer and I'm impressed with their marketing. I believe their strike balls can provide an edge, but this spare ball is just hype. So line get in line, put your "bud" ball in the garbage and pay $100 plus for a plastic ball that may or may not look cool.

But if you're smart, buy it, keep it NIB then dump it on ebay in three years from now for $400 to the next round of suckers.

i haven't seen a price tag yet, have you? why jump to conclusions and automatically assume that it would be the same price as an overseas release or retired ball?

Well because all clear balls are very expensive. Well i've heard that the clear balls hook very very little and less than a regular plastic ball will. Thats only wut i've read.

Yes but say that Elite for instance came out with a ball just exactly like say the Anger they would charge $200.00 atleast for that ball as all of there other balls are that price range and more. But Hammer isnt like that they charged $100. So it goes to show that you cant go by what other companies sell their stuff for. Hammer is a lot different none of their balls have been expensive yet I dont know why they would start now.

The more good it looks the more money it would be.

Thats life buddy get used to it. Why do you think a BMW cost more than say an Accord or something not because its most of the time or better performance or better waranty but because it looks better. Happens with everything not only bowling.

Yea i know, but u asked why they would do it now, thats why. You're paying for the looks.

i have no problem paying a little extra if it goes with my arsenal of widows. doesn't make me a sucker. hammer is a good company and i support good companies. so if you don't like the price tag, then no one is making YOU buy it. end of story. i'm sure that it will be well worth any price though, because hammer makes great stuff. Who would want to throw a maxim if they could get a spare ball that is designed to go with their black widow lineup. besides no one knows anything about it for sure. we just know it will be coming in december and it goes along with the black widow theme. we don't know how much it will cost and i'm sure that around $100 is a good ballpark figure.

Regardless of what it looks like, it'll have to be damn-skippy mfkin drop-dead gorgeous to outclass a Storm Soccer for looks going down the lane.

The Everclear was awesome but who in their right mind would drill and throw it? Display case stuff if you ask me.

I didn't like the Flaming T or any of what I'd term "gimmick" balls like the snake and skull, the melon, the gambler or the Bud etc (sorry Rowdy) and if I were to buy a clear ball it'd be completely clear and probably made by Lanehawk - either their transparent clear or transparent blue would do me.

Wanna spare? Buy a Blue Dot!

Edit: Sorry Skippy - Australia still loves you

Bubba, maybe you can enlighten me. I know (and was implying) that the reactive and pearls and particles are all different. It's my (maybe limited) under standing that plastic balls are similar in reaction (ie none). I've heard the clear balls have a touch more grip but still very little.

So are there differences in plastic balls?

As for high priced clear balls. I've always been about performance over fashion. When I got my Maxim they had the clear hammer in stock but for less than half the price I could get the ball my pro-shop operator told me would go straiter.

Now this is all a moot point for me as I've learned to throw any ball strait, but I choose to keep my spare ball to lower the wear and tear on my hook balls.

I would be perfectly content with one of those Hammers that someone posted from a Russian website or something, that were plastic with simply the Hammer logo on the side. I too like Can-ham need no gimmick ball...

Although, I still say my idea for the Hammer spare would have been the best...

Spare No Mercy

Put the "aggressive" NM Hammer logo real big on one side...awesome:cool:

Well all of you are right in a way if you think about it. A spare is still a spare. Besides plastic is plastic. The only difference is to a woman. One you charge the pins with the other you buy dinner etc. Just wait and see. No sense getting all worked up over a BB that isn't out yet.

Besides I have my BD in Dec. does that mean I get 2?JK :D
One for my BD and then one for x-mas?:p

I do throw all Hammer at the moment..I also retired my spare ball due to the fact its seen better days...I will be purchasing another spare within the next week most likely...I agree with the plastic is plastic term..I know if it has Hammer on it...it would be cool to have a full line up of Hammer balls in my bag..but to me...paying even 60 or 70 bucks for a spare ball is not worth it..its not a money issue at all...my wife has a great job and I have a job that pays me ridiculous for what I do....its the point of...a spare ball...Im leaning hard on the Elite Star spare ball due to the fact that it is 20 bucks NIB...I most likely wont get the new spare from Hammer due to Im almost sure its gonna be a 70 dollar ball or better...so I figure for 70 bucks I can get my Elite spare and have it drilled and gripped ...but thats just me.

So far I've seen three mentions of either me or my spare ball on this thread. Thank you all very much for making my mind up for me. I'll wait and see what the new spare ball looks like and what it's priced at before I decide to buy it or not. I'm not gonna shell out more dollars than a reasonably priced ball just so my spare ball can say Hammer on it. Y'all would have to admit that would be kinda stupid. Nor will I buy a ball that should be put up and looked at instead of rolled on a regular basis. Buying a shelf queen is equally stupid when you need a ball to roll. I'm sure that Brian Graham and the Hammer Brain Trust aren't gonna stick us with that kind of lemon. Based on past performance,I expect the ball will tie in with an existing product line and will be reasonably priced. I really don't understand why they just didn't bring the BW Spare out here since they're already making the darn thing. It would be reasonably priced, too. They've already paid off the tooling and molding costs and had the ball accepted by the USBC. So our cost shouldn't be that much.

idlehourlegend
11-02-2007, 04:59 PM
This Ball could also be accepted by the USBC for all that we know. If you look on the list of approved balls they have like 8 or more black widow balls including a bw spare, bw sting, and bw clear that are supposedly out this year so one of these could eb the name of the one that is coming out. But we'll just have to wait and see what happens.

Rowdy

Exactly. I think that some of this spare ball talk has The Hammer Brain Trust laughing so hard they're in danger of peeing themselves. Now we have some pic of a one off ball from down under that looks like a Halloween decoration. I wouldn't be caught dead pulling that thing out of my bag. Everyone just needs to sit tight and wait for The Word from Hopkinsville.
