For those of you who want to save their span specs, you could print this out and take it to your pro shop or where you had your ball drilled and have him/her copy the info . This way it's readily available for you.

I have a copy of my specs in my bag. After the experiences I've had though, I doubt I'll ever buy another ball on the road.

That may be a good idea, as seeing that a lot of pro shop operators have different methods for drilling balls. Its usually a good idea to find a pro shop and stick with it (if they do a good job), so things are consistent.
For example, the layout sheet posted has "edge to edge" measurements, which is how it should be done. If finger inserts are used, this measurement should include the thickness of the inserts as well. Lots of Pro shops around this area measure from the edge of the hole, making the actual span larger than what it should be.

My pro shop's specs for my ball is with power grips. He says if I want to go to oval he would have to change the measurement.

ye, when I used lifts, I subtracted 3/16, now with flats or ovals I subtract 1/8. That may not seem like much to some, but I can feel it. We use the Jayhawk sheet like you posted

The problem may not be the drillers. You will hard pressed to find two span gauges that are the same. We only use Jonell gauges and Jay Hawk span rulers. Those read the same.
We hesitate to drill any ball with only a drill sheet. We would rather take measurements from an old ball that you are comfortable with or remeasure.
Difference in brand of grips vary also. We use edge to edge measurements. Much more accurate.

i dont think i would buy a ball outta town, it just so happens that my driller has the exact same span as me, so all my stuff comes out perfect everytime because he's so used to drilling his own, its a big plus, i had my NVS shortened but didnt like it so i went back to my original span when i got my bite, i was talking w/ idle and i think the next addition to my bag is going to be a Raid (i know its not hammer) but im gonna do something weird with that ball because my BITE will still remain my go to ball and the first ball i put in my hand every night
