Do you look at the foul line? Do you look at the arrows at 15' ? Do you look at the dark boards at 45' (at least I think it is 45')? Or is it something other than written above.....

I use the arrows, aim between the second and third depending on the conditions of the lanes. Standing on the first dot to the left.

Usually I look at the arrows. Sometimes I tend to walk watching the dots at the foul line and when I'm there I aim for the arrows.

I lock my eyes on the arrow I'm targeting, walk towards the mark and swing my arm straight at & through it,,,putting the ball on the lane about 14" - 16" past the foul line.....
I personally can't see where using the dots at the foul line would be a good thing to shoot at,,,,seems to me targeting at the line would cause one to put the ball on the floor behind their' foot (killing the roll) or possibly cause a balance problem.

I have used the foul line in many instances and it has worked successfully. I use it mainly when playing up the boards and need to put it on the first few boards accurately, plus it also help me get the ball rolling quickly when needed. When more pitch is needed I just look further down the lane. The hardest thing I have ever tried was looking at the dark boards at 45 or even using the pins as an aiming marker.

i look at the arrow i'm aiming at, then move my eyes about 10 feet down the lane.

I have use the arrows or the boards between them for 30 years.
I started bowling again after 13 years off.
New ball Hammer High Rev.
6 weeks of practice and best games in summer league.
High game 279
High 3 games 235/261/234-730
High 4 games 279/228/219/206-932

Much better than the old balls I used in 60's 70's and 80's

Depends on the lane condition.

Sometimes the Dots 7' beyond the foul line.

Some times the arrows

Sometimes the splice on Wood Lanes, where the heads and pines are joined together.

Some times the Range finder boards at 40-45' on Brunswick Pro Anvil "Skid" lanes.

Never at the foul line. I have never been able to project my shots or follow through properly looking at the foul line.

I used to look at the dots at your feet but now I look at the arrows.

I look at the dots on the lane, a single board, and even a crack in a board if need be. I spot the third arrow when shooting a ten pin. For 3 and 6 pins, I spot a board between the third and fourth arrows.

Yeah that is how i used to shoot my spares like that and I'd probably leave about 2-3 spares per game, but I just recently started throwing straight at the pins (instead of hooking) and I look at the pin and throw the ball straight to it. In about 7 to 8 games that i have been doing this I haven't missed 1 spare!!! :D

Of all the 22 years I have been bowling, I have always used the arrows and move my feet according to lane conditions. The past 3 years I have really focused on my approach and delivery which has shot my average over 20 pins since returning back to bowling in 2000. I can shoot an inside-out line at the 15-16 to the 5-7 board, as well as outside line between the 6-7 board, depending where the carry is. Every bowler has their preferences, it's usually the one who reads the lanes first. I admit that I am not a high roller, but I have been shooting consistent & getting decent scores.

I use what is working for the lane condition that I am bowling on. If I get locked into a certain target my game suffers and I try to force the ball to do something.

My "A" game shot is around the 7 board at the arrows. During league warm up, I throw this shot and watch what it does. I have been know to shot a strke shot, thowing the ball at the showdow of the ten pin on the lane. The condition dictates where and how you should throw your ball. Always be ready to adjust for what the lane give you.

I am currently carrying a 216 average only bowling 2 night a week and 4 games practice on the week-end.

To start off with on league nights I look between the 1 and 2 arrows for a right handed bowler. Anyone ever tried to bowl with their eyes closed? I've done it before and didnt do too bad. I'm not physically blind, but without my contacts in I cant read this computer screen without being about 4 inches from it, and I've bowled plenty without my contacts in, and it helps with hitting your mark on the lane, it starts to become natural. And its a pretty fun thing to try out.
