View Full Version : cherry vibe or bwp??
a few weeks ago i posted asking what would be the better ball for my situation. ill have the money soon and its time to make the decision. i need a ball for bowling on lanes that havent been oiled in about 20 hours, and have had leagues on them during that time... this will be my ball for highschool team practice everyday for the next 3 months (and if needed at meets).
im afraid that the bwp might still be too much ball for the conditions. also, being a higher end ball, im afraid it might have a shorter life span than the cherry vibe. im going to be using it for at least 3 games 4 days a week.
as you can see i have a good arsenal for oily lanes, so im not worried about that. as far as price it looks like it will be about a $50 difference between the two.
what do you guys think?

I vote for neither. If its for practice I would consider a urethane ball. It will not only work well on fried lanes, but will force you to make more quality shots. Which in the long run is what your trying to do.

i see, any suggestions on the ball?

Just find a used one and buy it as cheap as possible,its just for practice . When I practice, I turn off the scorers too. Then I can really practice. By the way, the Vibe will also be too much ball on those lanes. Dont underestimate that ball, I love mine

tell your coach that your not going to shell out cash for a new ball if its just for practice. Practice should consist of you trying to improve yourself as a bowler, and not to worry about your scores. The more balls you change the more you change.

What weight do you throw? I have a urethane Ebonite Purple Nitro in my way that I ought to get rid of. I really don't want to because it is by far the most controllable ball I have ever thrown, but it is 16lbs, and I turned into a girl and dropped to 14lbs, so I will probably never throw it again.:rolleyes:
well i guess i said it wrong... it isnt ONLY for practice. i want it to just have as a weaker ball in my arsenal. especially after high school, the house leagues i will be on will not use as much oil for matches so i need something to use in those situations too...
and it has nothing to do with my coach, its all me wanting to have the right ball for as many conditions as i can.
Edit: in the op i was just trying to stress that this ball will get alot of use, and im curious if the lifespan of this ball would be longer than the bwp...

Nothing in what you just said changes my opinion that you need a urethane ball. Trust me, when the lanes really dry up, there is nothing better than some smooth rolling urethane.
You never said what weight you throw. C'mon...say 16:D I will make you a great deal! ;)

I would get the Cherry Vibe and get it drilled Skid/flip. If you are looking for something that will take care of drier lanes for a good price, that would be that ball.
i throw 15, and the lanes arent bone dry, just used alot.
im definitly leaning toward the cherry vibe right now...

You already have a ball that very good for dried out or lite oil lanes... The tornado warning... The other poster is correct though, a urethane ball would be a great choice... Plus will improve your game... Ebonite Tornado could be even a better ball for your lane condtions then the Vibe and cost about $20.00 less...
the tornado warning is worthless for hook if there is any oil at all lol. a tornado would be alot better, but for $20 i would rather take the cherry vibe.

I still buy the BWP,hands down. Don't even have to think about it.

thanks for the on-topic reply. but are you sure it wont still be too strong for the conditions?

It's a pearl. It slides. If you need it to slide some more,polish it. All I know is that the BWP will handle more different lane conditions than a Cherry Vibe. If you need to look at it another way,which ball would you outgrow LAST? The BWP,of course. So it will last you longer,therefore,more bang for the buck.

Hey Dado, I have three balls that are just sitting in my closet. Would take $100 for all three if you would pay the shipping...or we could work something out. Let me know what you think.
Infinite One ::::::less than 24 games
Overtime ::::::less than 50 games
V2 Sweet :::::: probably around 50 games
They are all 15 lbs. I try to order them 15 and 3-4 oz to keep them really close to 15 after being puched out. Infinite and V2 are pin under arching balls and the OT is kind of pin up. I was looking to make the ball go just a little longer.
I know your looking for a drier lane ball but that V2 really is great. I used it for light to meduim oil. And when things dried out it is polished so it gets through the heads nice saving plenty for the back end.
I actually just purchased a BV trying to mimic the ball reaction of the V2 Sweet. Like I said, get a hold of me. E-mail adam.moreland@yahoo.com. I think I can help you and you can help me.

Thanks for the update. And for the record "I KNEW THAT". I just have them sitting around and if I can help somebody out, why not? Not to mention that getting three for less than the price of one...Think about it.

Yea but think about this. You pay 100$ plus shipping for 3 ball. So say 150$. Then you have to get all 3 balls plugged and redrilled so theres another 150$. Thats 300$. So for that kind of money you could have 2 brand new HAMMER balls, drillled and ready to go.

With Dado being from Michigan and me from Michigan I would be willing to help a fella out on the shipping. And as far as the plug and re-drill go. My fit is pretty common and may only need a slug replacement or some new inserts.
Not to mention most high school kids bowl in a center with a pro shop that will drill balls for nothing and plugging is a minimal charge. Both of the centers by me do that.
