Big, big weekend for me. I'm heading to New Jersey for the TNBA regional tournament this weekend. This will be my first large, multi event tournament since I decided to become a "serious" bowler last year. Finally I'll get to the chance to roll against some big dogs and see where my game is.

I'm beyond excited for this opportunity. This is what it's all about. All the practice, reading, thinking, building and arsenal is in prepartion for big tournaments. I spent a lot of time this week preparing for the tournament. I've tried to refresh myself on everything I've learned.

I'm going into this with a clear mind but my goal is to shoot 650 per event.

In the bag, 7+1

Thanks everyone.

I'm just going to follow what my hs football coach always ended his pep talks with. "Give this game everything you got and don't leave anything on the field. When you do that, no matter the result you'll always walk off the field with your head high."

Slap..good luck on your venture and may the hands of bowling gods reach down and touch you!..I sure hope you bring your game like we know you can buddy......I watched a LevRG last night up close in action...all I have to say is...wow Mo is a genius.......good luck!

Yeah Mo is off his rocker this season. Forget the LevRG, he just changed everything I thought I knew about X holes. Check out this picture and a sample of the discussion about it.

From what I just learned, there is a new concept that has just been verified by the USBC. This is called placing a balance hole on which is called the "Gradient Line". The line goes from the bowlers PAP to the PSA (or mass bias) after drilling. Place the balance hole directly on the PSA to strenghten the ball reaction, and on the PAP to weaken reaction through the altering of Differentials. IF the line is not flare safe, you can place a 3"-deep weight hole 5/8" inside the gradient line and pitch it 1 1/4" away from the center of grip. This will place the geometric center of the hole directly along the gradient line.

It appears that this balance hole was used for that method.

I just got back from an Advance Pro Shop seminar given by Mo, which is also endorsed by the USBC, so this is all fresh in my mind. The gradient line is a new concept that was defined about a month ago, so I wouldn't expect very many to know what it means, but when explained it made sense to me. Its not a rule, but another tool to enhance ball reaction. I am sure there are those who knew of this, but may have not had a scientific reason as to why. Now there is. I've got to hand it to the Equipment and Spec. department at the USBC, they are really doing lots of research into ball reaction now and its eye opening stuff that they are finding. Its really crushing alot of our old thoughts about the importance of certain aspects of what influences ball reaction.

Rev, that picture posted does illustrate the gradient line. Nobody has heard of it yet because to my knowledge, I just got back from THE first pro shop class that had its mention as part of the presentation. Mo works closely with Paul Ridenour of USBC and Paul was able to do some pretty amazing things with use of balance holes placed on the gradient line. To understand the gradient line you have to understand the difference between your PAP and the actual axis which the ball rotates. Your PAP is a measurement at the moment of release. The balls axis of rotation will not stay on that spot, but will migrate towards the PSA. Now this line from your PAP, to the PSA which the balls axis will seek is the Gradient line. The ball will tend to want to rotate around a void, unless there is a stronger point upon which the axis will seek. It makes sense that a balance hole on the bowlers PAP will reduce ball reaction since the ball will tend to "pause" on that void at release. The closer to the actual PSA that void is, the quicker the ball will seek that spot, with the ultimate goal of the PSA as its axis of rotation.

Sheesh, that was a bunch. How many did I lose with that? I'm not an expert, but understand the concept and how it works. Those high school physics classes are finally paying off for me. Glad I paid attention.
