Going with an all Hammer arsenal and I will be joining a PBA Pattern league very soon.
Which ball worked for you on which pattern and why?

When it comes to the PBA conditions I dont think its the ball that matters as much as the layout. It more about being able to control the breakpoint. You will need both pin up and pin down layouts.

You don't think using a polished ball on a long/heavy pattern is a problem?

I have thrown a highly polished No Mercy on the Shark pattern from 18-10 and back to the pocket with no problem. It all depends in how it's laid out and your style of bowling. And I am no Tommy Jones.

Each bowler has different needs. Due to several reason related to their style of bowling. But 2 or 3 balls may not be enough, but might be enough with surface changes.
Here is a thread where alot of us posted about these shots.

Alot of it has to do with the ball on PBA patterns. For instance on the Shark try and use a ball that flares less. Try and use a strong ball with a weak layout . But also a factor is the type of lanes you are playing on.
Here is something I posted that will help with the answer to this question. it's a very good read.....

Bubba, on the shark wouldn't u want the most flare?

My No Mercy with the trick layout has an 7-8 inch flare. Which I would say is alot of flare.

You are correct I did say to use a ball that flares less. but I never said to use a ball that flares alot. I answered what Josh posted in reference to myself. I have alot of revs (450-500) and I could use a high flare ball to make it out of a heay oil condition. But remember not everyone can do this without alot of revs.
Here's what Josh asked and what I answered.......

Now my answer to that..........

I've had good results with both BW's. It's all a matter of how adaptable you are to the changing lane conditions. If you go to the Sport Bowling part of bowl.com there are diagrams of all 5 oil patterns in color. There are also playing tips right next to each pattern. Tink and I printed them out and keep 'em in our bags,we write notes on them so the next time we see that pattern we'll remember what and where we were scoring the best on that particular pattern. That's the biggest mistake I see guys making, they can't remember what and where they were bowling on that pattern a month ago! Don't trust your memory, write it down!
