Can someone please explain to me what a 9 pin no tap tournament is? I am signed up for a doubles 9 pin no tap tournament this weekend and I have no clue what it is.

All that means is if you get 9 pins or better on your first ball(strike ball) then it counts as a strike. These tournaments are a lot of fun you will really like it.

If you get 9 pins count on your first ball, you are given a strike.

Like the others have said, 9 pins=a strike on your first ball. Those kind of tournaments can be alot of fun, also if it's a mixed tournament it's even more fun because you get some classic reactions from women that bowl in these tournaments, making it that much more fun.

I just bowled one this past Sunday. SHot 806=248,278,280. The worst part is that the 280 was natural. All day I only had 7 nine pin strikes. The 280 was X,7Spare,next 10 ! Go Figure

Nice shooting stampy. That happens a lot because I think that instead of worrying about carry and trying to strike constantly, in the No tap people are just thinking about hitting the pocket and getting 9. So you stop thinking so much and just put the ball in the hole and thats when the big scores come.

Yep, I took my oldest daughter to her first 9 Pin, she was trying to get 9 so bad ! she shot 206 and 212 the 1st two, then I told her to bowl like league and she shot 280 just like dad ! LOL Although she had all 9 pin strikes but 1 !

One thing not mentioned yet is that when you look at the score you will see two different colored X's for strikes. White ones are natural strikes, all 10 pins down. Red are for 9 pins down. Why the difference? It's the tiebreaker. The bowler or team with the most white strikes, wins. So don't slack off, keep trying for a "real" strike and take the Red ones as a bonus. Plus some tournaments run a side pot for the most strikes and the white ones are the tiebreaker for that, too.

They count 'em all the same?

No, what they do is when you get a No tap strike it says NT in the box. But you dont get anything for throwing the most natural strikes or anything like that.

No, I wish they did it would make it a hell of a lot better. Ours is sanctioned though in case someone throws a natural honor score.

Ours isn't sanctioned. That's why we have the card game, strike pot, high score pot and high series pot! Money on the line on every ball!!:D

In the mixed no-taps, sometimes you will see them use a handicap as well..
commonly 70% of 220..
We had a couple of guys roll 930+ scores over 3 games thanks to handicap...

yea I hate having handicap in no tap tournaments. I have only bowled in a no-tap tournament 5 times. 3 in youth leagues all of which I won and 2 in an actual tournament. My high to date is 807 which I shot when I was 10.

Thats why most of the no-tap's around here have a cap on the handicap. Usually the most pins you'll get is around 40. Seems to work out better that way.
