Last week I posted a thread about being in a zone and rolling a 268, 7 consecutive strikes and 4 lousy pins for spares. Well, last night, at the same house, I went 179, 179 and 247, 6 in a row. (Someone made the remark that I blew my chance for a triple patch.) I did this last week and last night with my BW solid, on wood. The last game I was standing on board 20 and had 9 as my target. My question, when I bowl on synthetic, why can't I hit Kate Smith in the butt with a hand full of rice? (For those of you young'uns, KS was WIDE and rice spreads, therefore, you have a good chance of hitting her.) For some reason, I have a hard time finding my line. I 've made changes with my ball (go to No Mercy) but I suck on pretend wood.

Well the synthetics are smoother. Are they over hooking or under hooking on synthetics

Yea Pain, I know synthetic is smoother. It's like someone told me, synthetic is the same as wood, but everything is "magnified". Generally, my BWS is hooking less.

Synthetics tend to make you a lot more accurate. I bowl on wood also and you can get real lazy because they generally give you lots of area. That in my opinion is a bowlers (Especially beginners) best friend. I try to find a line that gives me hold and recovery (Area) but I will take recovery over the two due to that fact that you can pitch it out and still get it back. Wood makes you a lazy bowler pure and simple. And that is no slam to you, we all do it. I have a drill that my boss, my daughters and myself use every week for practice. I put two pieces of white tape on the 10 board and the and the 7 board at 40 feet. I do nothing but throw the ball to the area between them for at least an hour. I do not look at score at all. Just hit that gap. If you hit the tape, thats ok too. Almost every ball will go to the hole no matter what ball you use on wood ! Amazing isnt it ! And as staed above, you will more than likely need to move a bit right also on synthetics because the ball gets through the heads much smoother

we have dark boards on the 15 and 10 pretty far down the lane. I think they may be refered to as range finders. Are those any where near where you put the tape? Probably cant get permission to do that where I bowl.

He is puting the tape depending on where his break point is on the 10th board and two board left of the 1st arrow down the lane. I believe he is doing this at his break point. It sure is a good system to practice by.

I have totally different lines that I play on synthetics vs. wood lanes. I find that I have to go way outside and play straight up the 5 or farther out toward the ditch. For some reason all 4 houses around here with synthetics hook a ton on the backends. I don't know if that's a general condition of synthetic lanes or not. We thought it might be a humidity deal around here, maybe some of you guys up north or out west where it's drier can shed some light on this. But to try to throw your wood lane shots on synthetic probably isn't going to work. You'll need to come up with a game plan just for the synthetic lanes.
