Last night at league I was prohibited from cleaning my ball with Isopropyl Alcohol in the 3rd game, they stated that it was agaisnt USBC rules to modify the ball during play. Well I knew this stuck bad, and I know that Iso is an approved cleaner, but I didnt have a USBC rulebook handy. Well opening up my rulebook today to Rule 18, it CLEARLY states that Iso is allowed and that SANDING the ball is prohibited.

So am I in the right next week when I own these guys?

you are correct, you can polish you ball and clean your ball just not sand your ball during league play unless the your leauge bylaws prohibit that action. Your League Bylaws go above and beyond USBC playing rules and when your league bylaws do not cover an issue that is when tha USBC playing rules are used

Perek, I know youve already seen it a few times but let me add mine as well. You are right you can clean your ball during play as long as it is with the cleaners that are approved, which in your case you were in the right all the way. I did however, have an individual that for some god awful reason had a small container of Acetone and was going to clean his ball during play several weeks ago. Accoridng to USBC rules, acetone, at least at that time, was not an approved cleaner.
But as for your case, you were right, they were wrong, so let the beer flow bro.:D

Most polishes are banned in league play. They also alter the balls surface, like sand paper.

Atleast the way I understand it.
