Hey, i'm wondering that exactly using abralon pads do. I know they sand the ball...but are they really necessary for a bowler to use? Just to alter the balls cover prior to bowling?

Thanks

I think you've largely answered your own question - they alter the surface of a ball.

They kinda shave off rather than grind off and if you have a particle ball, normal emery paper would break the particles whereas Abralon doesn't. At least that's how it was explained to me.

There's a grit comparison chart around somewhere I think.

Necessary is in the beholder, I would guess. Scotch Brite/Scuff Pads would be an acceptable alternative for the average bowler.

Abralon Pads are woven together... the sanding material to the pad, so they last longer. If you keep them rinsed or washed.

What are you trying to accomplish or find out?

I was just looking around at different things to see if i can make my game better. And i knew about these, but i don't think i would really use them. If i have trouble with a ball i usually just switch if nothing else works.

I would take the way that Abralon sands over anything else.

If you go the Abralon route, make your purchases at www.supergrit.com (http://www.supergrit.com). They are the cheapest place we have found.

By the way how have things been? Hope all is well.

Watch on ebay for a seller nammed "Bowling Las Vegas" here was the description of the item I won.

You are bidding on a BOX OF 20 USED ABRALON PADS randomly picked out of our inventory of used pads. We use these pads on our Haus Machines for about 15 balls, then we discard them. These pads should be smoother than normal but still good enough to use on a ball spinner or on a bowling ball to change surfaces. We use the following grits in our shop: 180, 360, 500, 1000, 2000, and 4000.

Just as promised I got some gently used pads and a good mix of all of those grits for $14 shipped.

Things could be better. Bowled a couple good sets, but have been struggling to say the least. Can't seem to find a good reaction week to week, with the new lane machine.

Has some good runs with a Switch Blade a couple weeks ago.

Need to get some practice with my BWP at 1000, see if that may be the trick, might take a grey scotch brite and hit after a game or two see what that does, might have to go lower.

you can just hold the pad in one hand and spin the ball with the other hand, rotating the ball so that you cover the entire surface of the ball. back during last seasons womens series, a few time you could see the storm rep doing that to a competitors bowling ball.

but I don't have those items, so it's difficult for me to do.

when I saw this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iSfhWoduwQk&feature=related

I preferred to have my proshop do it instead of me doing it by hand.
