Hello peeps!
I have been researching some new bowling balls as the last one I had drilled up was about 5 years ago.
I have been reading about how the BWS soaks up oil and quits hooking if you don't keep it clean. So the question is, how much does this ball die when it gets to that stage? Does it flat out quit hooking or does it hook a little, but not a lot? How about the carry when it gets oil soaked? Does it start to hit like a marshmallow? Does the BWP soak up oil like the solid?
Thanks in advance for the answers.

Most bowling balls soak up oil. Your best bet is to just clean them after you use them. I made the mistake of never cleaning my BWS and I consider it to have died out. However, after reading these forums I now just deep clean my balls every 2-4 weeks (Ball Bath). and my BWS is just as good as new again.
Now I just clean them when im done bowling for the night before I go home and I havent had it happen again.

Like Daorge said, the key is to keep them clean. I wouldnot suggest to let the oil build up so much in the ball as to let the ball die alittle. They will not react like they did when they were new but will have a gradual arc and not the big break like some of them should have. Clean the balls after each lnight of league play with an approved ball cleaner. Also wipe the ball off between shots and this also helps from keeping the oil from soaking in alot. A strict cleaning regime will always keep the balls reacting like new.

Well that is what I'm looking for, a strong ball that tames down and is not so aggressive. I have been using an old Faball blue pearl hammer for the last 5 years as all of the light/dry oil balls that I bought hook way too much. I am starting to bowl in a different house that has some oil and the old hammer will not break much (2-3) boards. I have been throwing some of my light oil balls and they are working, but they skid/flip more than I like. I am looking for a ball that has a gradual hook, not a snap hook. I would like to stay with Hammer as I love the way my old Hammer hits the pins.
So when the BWS "dies" do you lose the hitting power? Tell me what you are seeing.

You don't loose the hitting power you will loose alot of the break. If this is ok with you thewn all you will have to do is adjust on the lanes to get the ball back top the pocekt with the correct entry angle.

You should consider a Blue Vibe then. Tell your pro shop guy to drill it 4x4" pin to pap

My first BWS was drilled with a #3 medium track( center pic in the #3 drilling sheet). It would go about 45 feet straight up the 10 board and arc right to the pocket. First game I had it I threw a 223. I found it not to very sensetive to speed either.
It has over 160 game in it and still splits the rack with authority. Just keep it clean, it's not that much work.
Hard to argue against the BWS
Good advice on the 4x4" measurement also....

I am a big fan of the clean while you bowl. Make wiping the ball part of your pre shot routine. I know that is what I do.
Not to mention I read in my Bowling This Month that wiping every time helps put more surface of the ball on the lane. If you don't wipe it off there are rings of oil in your track and that is just more adversity for your ball to overcome.
Wipe every shot and if you don't have a lot of time when your done or don't want to take the time pick up some Alley Catz. There quick little wet wipes for your ball.

The BWP is a great ball but with all Equipment you need to keep them cleaned the guys have covers everyting and they are right clean after a shot and at the end of the night but it will still it hard after alot of games i bowl 2 leagues and have 10 to 12 700 with my BWP and it still hit just as it did out of the box...

I'm still waiting for mine to "die down" I have done verything to this ball to kill the hook. From polishing to taking out more side weight to not cleaning it for a couple months and this thing still hooks. I'm a lefty and my line RARELY changes.
I am becoming so disgruntled with this thing, I will buy either a BWP, toxic, vibe or doom as my next ball. The clear will also become a member of my arsenal.

Can you tell me the differnce between the No Mercy and the BWS, which do you like better. I amd looking to purchase one of them and trying to find the differences if there are any or is it personal preference.

Well I find the No mercy to be a bit stronger than the BWS, and it also handles heavier oil better than the BWS in my opinion. Both are great balls though. Either one would be a great addition to anyones game.

BW's die? Since when? There's a guy in my Wed nite league with a BWS and it's the nastiest looking ball I've ever seen. This guy never cleans it. Just shoves it in a locker and walks away from it. He's had it for over a year now and the ball still hooks like it did right out of the box. Unbeliveable. I keep all of mine clean and have never had a problem with them.

Thanks for the input. Looking at the Hammer web site it does not tell me much about the differences of the two Vibe balls (cherry and blue). Can you tell me what the difference is as far as reaction goes (i.e. longer, skid/flip, arc motion, etc.) for each ball based on the same lane oil and ball layout.
Thanks
