I've been bowling off and on, and I mean like 1 or 2 times every 3 or 4 months, since 2002, but just this past Summer I started bowling regularly and in a league. Well I've been throwing 15 and 16lb balls the whole time, and just within the past couple of weeks my wrist has been hurting. Now I dont know if its because with the Hawg Zilla I think I have to turn my wrist harder and more than I used too, or because the ball is too heavy. I dont think its the weight, considering I've been using this weight of a ball for awhile. I bought some athletic tape and taped it up last night just so I dont bend it as much and I'm gonna leave it on during the league tonight, so we'll see how that goes. Anyone else expierence this type of pain or soreness? And if so what else could it be? Thanks

You may want to try a hard wrist brace like a Robby Revs or a Pro Release. They can be cumbersome and hard to get used to but they support the wrist real well. I've been using one for a year now

Thanks man. How long did it take you to get used too it? I have leagues tonight, so I dont wanna start tonight, I wanna get some practice with one before I try and compete. I was gonna get this one for like $10.00 the other day, but I wanted to make sure my wrist was still gonna hurt before I bought it, but sure enough it is, so I might pick one up after leagues and practice with it until next week to see if I get used to it. Thanks again

"turn your wrist"? if you're releasing the ball properly, you shouldn't be turning your wrist at all. the ball should have a natural rotation off your hand. maybe you should find someone to show you how to hold and then release the ball the correct way.

It pains me to agree with seeyouinhell but he is 100% correct, the wrist should be stable. What is your height and weight, it is entirely possible you are bowling with a heavier ball than you should be also.

Do yourself a favour and take the advice of Jslowick and get a wrist strap, they not only give support, but they also give you a control you won't believe until you try it! Should only take a couple of weeks to get used to it and then it will be just like part of your arm!! All the best which ever way you go!

The wrist brace also gives you a consistent release. Every time. I did hurt my wrist a few weeks ago, and it would kill my wrist to bowl. I use a wrist brace to support my wrist and give it a consistent release. Plus if it is still bothering you, a little Tylenol or Advil will defiently help. And for the weight of the ball it depends on (like gry. said) you height and strength.

That would be weight.

You may try squezzing a tennis ball to add strength to your wrist!
I wouldn't worry about taking a week or two to adjust to something. If the outcome is better,
especially when it comes to pain. Don't go on to long, you may have to take time off. It might
be worth getting medical help.

I use a Wrist Support by Masters. Ebonite has one close to it, but I like the Master's.

Considering I'm 5'10" and weigh 205lbs, and can bench press about 350lbs, I know its not my wrist that is weak and cant handle the 16lb ball. Let me retrack my previous statement, I dont really turn my wrist, I throw the ball just as well as anyone in my league and I've been told that by alot of people. They say my release, and form is one of best they've ever seen. Now that I've had it checked my a few people, the pain is coming from the top of my hand, about a 1/2 inch before my wrist.

With out seeing things in person, ect, ect,,,,,,,it's possible that your' ball may not fit properly and could be the culprit.
I've had that experience. A pro shop in Dead Moines (that I won't set foot in after this episode), had a ball of mine screwed up- causing the 2nd joint in my ring finger to get sore as hell and swell to triple it's normal size, soreness in my thumb, and "fatigue" of my wrist (and I'm not a cranker).
After having said shop attempt to fix the fit 4 times, I went to a different driller who asked,,, "who was this ball drilled for? it sure wasn't you".
I've had NO problems with my finger, thumb, or wrist since changing drillers.

^I see what your saying. But I've had this shop drill 2 other balls for me and my wrist hasnt hurt, but maybe now my wrist is starting to feel the effects of bowling, since I was out of the sport for a long time. I'll keep bowling without a wrist support and see what happens within the next couple of weeks. I bought some athletic tape and wrapped it around the lower part of my hand by my wrist and I wrapped it around my wrist also, that away there was some support, and I still had to free movement of my wrist. It seemed to help during bowling last night, so we'll see. Thanks for the help guys.

Just wondering if your having any other pain in your arm or forarm and are compensating for that pain with your wrist. Like maybe there's some tendonitis in your forearm??? Maybe try one of those braces used for tendonitis and see if that helps any! I know from experience that when there's pain in one part you use another part you don't normally use then that gets sore. If that dosen't help take 2 Motrin and crush em.....

I dont have any other pain. I've noticed though its really just the top part of my hand, and some of the wrist. I'll keep it wrapped during bowling and stuff just to see how it does. I had it wrapped Wednesday night and it didnt hurt at all.

I have used a wrist band made by Pro Grip which has a ball in the end of it which stimulates a nerve in your wrist causing to use more muscles than necessary to give the bowler more strenght in the wrist and it works great. It is not a big bulky contraption just a small wrist band. If pain persists try this it only costs like $15 and is well worth the money

The best advice I can give you is to see a Dr.

A couple of weeks ago I was using a hand drill and it torqued in my hand and sprained my wrist. I just so happens I have some bone chips in the same area that were jarred loose and started irritating some nerves, plus they found some Arthritis in the wrist area.

The I went and agrivated the whole thing when I got all of my leagues set up in the computer at the center, a little carpal tunnel developed.

The Dr. imobilized my hand/wrist in a splint and told me no use of the hand for 2 weeks........ Fat chance of that happening.

2 nights after I saw the dr I bowled. Actually threw the ball well. I used a Robbys Plus and shot 688 that Tuesday I also bowled shot 668. On Wednesday I was supposed to bowl again...... I couldnt hold the ball, no less pick it up and Roll it.

Took the next week off and now I come back this week and shoot 756 262, 231, 263 with out the Robbys.

I am however taking Anti Inflamitories (Naproxen 500mg 2x daily) which helps.

There could be many causes for your problem, First see a Dr. then see a Qualified coach/Pro Shop operator. tho see if you are doing anything wrong in your delivery
