View Full Version : What's The Big Deal?

Ok fellas...after a 10 year run using strictly Columbia products and a recent experiment w/Storm, I've decided to stick with Hammers. I'm in the process of building a 4 ball arsenal with the BWS, BWP, and a poly ball.
I have an original black Chaos TEC (Particle) which I love for the heavier patterns but it's 16lb and over the years I've become a weak man.:( I do have a 759 this season with the Chaos but I was sore for days (though smiling) after that night.
Anyhow, I came across The Big Deal and while discontinued, it seems like it may be what I'm looking for in the Hammer line. The NMB coverstock maint has me completely turned off and while I am intrigued by the Anger, I tend to play more skid/flip which the Anger is not.
For those of you that have thrown the BD and the BWS in oil...how did they compare. The cores look identical so it's down to coverstock comparison. A 1k Abralon particle vs a dull BWS?
After I was beat 703-701 on Wed night by a fella rolling a BD...I was very impressed with his carry and thus I'm considering it in my arsenal.
Thanks in advance for your time!

The NMB isnt any different then the BW for maintenance. If you clean it after you bowl you shouldn't have a problem with it.
For heavy oil, I still recommend the NM or NMB. Alot of people like the anger as well, I havent rolled one yet (however its now on order w/ my proshop :D )
However, if you clean your BW and BWP after you roll them then the NMB should be no different and would definately give you the skid/flip reaction your looking for.

I agree with Daorge (http://forums.hammerbowling.com/member.php?u=771). The NMB is freaking awesome and I only do the same maintenance I do on all my balls hammer or not. Wipe after each shot, spray with clean after each session, Give a bath every 2 months, and resurface when ball is showing lots of ware.
But if you like a late SF reaction in heavy oil, this ball with #1 drilling doesn't disappoint.
Best of luck and welcome to hammer life.

Wow...thanks fellas. I really wanted to try the Beat'n, the specs seem to be just what I'm looking for. However two local bowler's, one I respect ALOT, will not recommend it.

Just curious, but what are their reasons for not recommending it?
I love my beat'n; I think it is the only ball I've thrown in league since mid-October.

if you do not want coverstock maitenance, step away from the Hammers. They are all oil sponges. I have the Anger, great ball, sponge.
Cherry Vibe, light oil ball, sponge.

If it's any consolation my proshop operator actually ordered him self a NMB after he drilled mine and saw how great it plays our league's heavy oil "modified house shot".

Both complained of the dramatic drop off in ball performance around 30 games. I know one is fairly maintenance savvy and he told me the ball would require more attention then even my BWS. The other fella does not pay much attention to ball maintenance and therefore I assume that's the root cause of his problem.
Honestly I was aware of some Hammers being dubbed a sponge but not the entire brand, especially not the Vibe. However I do not mind working on my own equipment. I just don't want a drastic drop in performance to where the ball would then react to a different ball in my arsenal.
Thanks again for all of your input, I really appreciate the feedback. Too many times I've purchased balls only to find they're not for me. I probably have 10 in my game room now that are collecting dust in addition to the 7 or 8 I gave away last year. This time I hope to have better luck in building a versatile selection of 4 condition specific balls and of course my poly spare.

Well, just give it deep cleaning every two weeks and you'll be fine.
Yes...the Vibe soaks up as much as my BWS, even when BWS is at 2000 sanded and Vibe at 4000 polished

I've got at least 3 times that, 90+ games on mine since October, and with just routine maintenance haven't noticed any drop off in performance at all.

While my house does not have heavy oil, I have thrown both. The BD is very similar to the BWS, only lesser overall hook, lesser angle, and lesser skid before it flips.

Thanks again for all of the responses. I don't think I'll be able to find a NIB Big Deal at a reasonable cost even if I chose to give it a try.
I'm going to roll my Attitude Shift in the heavier oil for a few weeks. I'd like to find out more about the new Bite before I make a decision. Either way...it'll be a Hammer. :)

Pulled it(TBD) Friday for practice and had to stop after 6 in a row as I was practicing with the BWC for spares. Threw it back to back with the BW and it is as I described though I have taken a green pad to my Big Deal.

The Big Deal is a Little Load Particle, so it will be more angular than the other Deals and I believe the Blue's... but like what was said it hooks less than BWS...just old tech.
Thing is particle balls can be high maintence, just like the sponges to keep the reaction up.
