Well...just got back from my tournament and some family gathering.

I had to drop out of the tournament, didnt finish the second block.

I was throwing my Anger, and my thumb slug for the Anger is slightly bigger. So I squeezed, formed a blister. Then I went for the 2 1/2 hour break between the first and second block. So I came back, fried lanes. Started throwing my CV, and MY THUMB TORE OPEN!!!!

No signs of it blistering up or anything, just tore open when the thumb was coming out on a shot.

So I tried to use new skin FOUR TIMES!!!!
NONE of the times it stuck, so I had to drop out.

Needless to say, I'm effing livid.

So, I'm wondering. How do switch grips work? I'm thinking about switching to switch grips because of this. This is my first blister in a long time, and I'm not happy.

Great drilling and all that, just the day I got my Anger I was slightly swollen up apparently, and I got it beveled out for me, and it didnt fit when I went to throw today.

So....to switch grip or not to switch grip and go get the slug redone?

Either way I end up spending my birthday money, so I wont be buying the BWB.

that sucks bro. since my thumb drilling bites me as well as gives me blisters, i've even considered having the thumb drilled out larger than my thumb size. i bought a 'thumb saver' and it seems to feel well, but its worthless without having a substantially larger thumb hole. but i take it with me when i go bowling, in hopes of finding someone bowling near me with a ball containing a larger thumb hole so i can actually try the thumb saver lol. i have not tried any gloves. i think you jinxed yourself when you wished me good luck in finding oil with you on the prowl with your anger hehe.

lol I guess

by the second block I was standing 20 boards off of the last dot on the left, they stopped numbering the boards where I was standing with the anger, and I was throwing lefty arrows...lol

regarding your questions about the switch grips.....

switch grips I find are an awesome idea! i use them.. i changed to them after i went to a national tourament, while i was down there bowling at the tournament, my thumbed swelled up, was throbbing etc, went to the doctor, found out I had a skin infection in my thumb, i couldnt bowl because it was too painful, and because my thumb wouldnt fit in the hole. so when i got home i decided that i was goin to prevent the risk of me not bowling if my thumb ever swelled up again..

so i went to my driller and put switch grips in all my gear, yes it can be an expensive task, but it is worth the money!! i have 3 different sizes in switch grips, one that perfectly fits my thumb, one bigger and one smaller.. they feel great on your hand, and give a nice smooth release.

depending what switch grips you use .. the hole is drilled out with a 1 1/2 inch drill bit the outer seelve is put in.. glued in etc, the switch then just twist and clicks in..

More info on this website about them..

Not to sound sarcastic but wouldn't tape be easier ??

hmmm not really, once you have got all the switch grips in your gear its sooo easy to change the thumbs, tape takes a bit of time to get in and out, were as the switch grips takes a few seconds.. this is just my opinion though, completely up to you if u get them or not....

Tape would be easier if it was a problem with spacing in the front of the thumbhole only. I have an oval hole, and the guy opened it more to the side of the thumb.

I'm using the switch grip thumb as well and have loved it. It seems that with a regular drilling you can never get your thumb hole 100% duplicated so as you change balls the fit may be close but it is never exact.

This way, no matter what ball I pick up I know the feel is identical ball to ball and it has really helped with my release.

So put the tape on the side. But you said you were squeezing it and thats what caused the blister. you shouldn't need to squeeze if the oval is too big. try that Vise tape that goes on your hand instead of the ball.

I have a thumb hole that is a little bigger when I start bowling and I add tape to my thumb not the ball. I use whatever number of pieces that it takes to feel snug. I also use different types (textures) for the last piece that would touch the slug.

I have found this to work well and improve my ability to have less muscle in my grip and swing. Since I have never had blisters on any part of my thumb I'm not sure how it would effect you since something is rubbing.

In any event the tape may at least stop your thumb from splitting open. If you have not switch over to the switch grips the tape is not that expensive just to try. If it does not work at least you know that for sure and can go into the switch grips with a more positive feeling instead of which way do I go. Good luck on your choices.

What,no tape in your bag? I've got tape for a thumb hole and I wear Vise tape on my fingers and the back of my thumb. What you're describing sounds like more of a pitch issue to me anyway.

lol I dont have tape right now, I forgot about it totally until Oatman used it today on his spare.

I havent had to use tape since my balls got redrilled. so I'm gonna go get some to fix the problem.

tape...tape..tape. I spent all summer ranting on and on about the various reasons for using tape. This is one of them. A proper fitting thumb hole should have 2 or 3 pieces of tape, for "sizing" and to "vent" the hole.

Kids. You can't tell 'em anything. They all think they're the first to do stuff when we wrote the book on everything already. Blisters, why do you think us parents can see right thru you? Been there, done that, have a closet full of T-Shirts to prove it. Winnin',losin',racin',lovin',drinkin',fightin',tim e in the city slammer, been there, done it ALL!
