Greeting All. I've been feeling like Doo-Doo lately. Lack of pain killers will do that. Can't hardly walk, let alone bowl. Enough of that whining. Here's the skinny:Last Wed nite Tink and I go to our usual league. We find out that a bowler on another team was replaced after missing the week before. She has been used and abused by her team. We have an opening on our team. Oohhh, this all seems so logical, don't it? We can't find the prez or veep,so we go to the treasurer and get permission to add her to our team. Still sounds simple,no? We're rolling against the third place team,we are currently 3 games behind them in the win column, her ex-team is dead last. By the fifth frame of game one,we are up by 70 pins and pulling away. All of a sudden there comes an annoucement that there will be an immediate team captain meeting. Uh-oh. Seems they took a vote after the captain of the team we're rolling against pitched a fit. Poor loser. The question was asked if the team she was moving to was better than the one she was leaving. Well,Duh. The upshot is we have to ditch our newest bowler and roll 3 against 4. I went to the league prez and asked why we had to lose her since her team had violater Rule 17b. He replied that he wasn't interested in that, shut up and bowl. That was when I packed my gear and headed for the door. We all wound up leaving and went bowling in a more enjoyable atmoshere. I just couldn't bring myself to roll with people like that. To treat one of my friends this way is NOT what I will tolerate.

Sound like a bunch of dead heads to me. Take your new team member and all four of you go get another league I reckon.

What part of Rule 17b was violated? Do agree with you Rowdy, if another team does not want a bowler and that bowler is current on league fees or gets current. Don't see the big deal.

I agree also but here is one factor to consider. Did that bowler leave her old team because of how she was being treated ? if so remember she is still on that roster and in order for her to bowl with any other team she must have the release of her old team captian first.

same thing happened to me...i was a sub on one team on thursday nite and another team was short 2 bowlers so i was going to join that team but my team captain wouldnt release me...so we are now 1 team short in the league because they didnt have a full team and had to give up their spot..

I had that happen to my team on position night, we were missing a bowler and another team got the sub before I knew, and would not give them up. We were in second, and they were third, but were mathematically eliminated from winning the whole thing. The captain of the other team just kept saying they had a chance. He didn't realize that even if we won 1 more point than the first place team(forcing a tie) and he swept he would lose by 1 point.

Rule 17b was broken when her old team called her some of the nastiest names I can think of. She missed one week when she went with her boyfriend to the hospital because his Dad was having surgery. She called and left word what was going on.
I would think that putting another bowler on the team PERMANATLY would be a clue that your no longer wanted. She was going to quit anyway. We asked her to be on our team because we were one bowler short. We needed a fourth bowler. The fact that her boyfriend is on our team makes no difference. But it sure did to those clowns. So instead of having a full team, those losers can divvy up less cash at the end of the year.
And yes,I'm looking for a singles league or a cash sweeper to roll in now. Screw the USBC and their b******* leagues nine ways from Sunday. I'm through rolling with children,I'm gonna start taking cash from grown ups!

I'd be curious to know what you local association has to say about that... or even those up in Wisconson.

Here is the Rule Rowdy is referring too.

17b. Improper Conduct

An individual can also be charged with the following violation(s):
1. Engaging in improper tactics or conduct in connection with the game of bowling including, but not limited to, physical and verbal abuse toward other persons.

We'll find out. I bitched to the USBC. They claim to want to help me,we'll see if it's all talk or not. I ain't holding my breath on this one.

I believe the USBC has a rule about this very thing. I do know in our mixed league, a majority of league captains and officers can make changes like these. There is no need to get a "release" from the captain of the team. The captain doesn't own anything, except the team spot in the league. Worst case senario is she would have to give a two week notice and pay any outstanding dues. That is all that is required by USBC. Then she could join any other team, if the captains and officers agree. She may have to wait until the end of the half, if you have that rule that doesn't allow bowlers to join/sub the last 3 weeks of the half.

Aaaand the Answer is.....Since she was replaced (dumped) by her team she was a "free agent" and could move to ANY team. All that was needed was a 2/3rds vote of the League Officers. The Rule about having to be released by the old Team Captain was abolished last year. Now if you want to change teams on your own,you only need a 2/3rds vote of Team Captains. We could file a written protest under Rule 119 and make them rebowl the entire night. But since we can't stand any of those losers we are going to just be happy with the fact that the League Dumbasses will have to answer to the USBC about this. And they will. The USBC is VERY unhappy with the whole thing. The guy I talked to on the phone was major league pissed that a League let a whole team down like that. Fun fact: If we qualify for any cash, they have to still give it to us!!!
