For a first time hook ball, the Pain is very strong. It will be moving a lot. I know mine does. I still can't believe how strong it is.

Usually when folks pick up a hooking ball for the first time they go with something that isn't as powerful. If you think you can control the Pain, great. Go for it. However, when I think of a player learning to play a hook I think Vibe.

I might be getting a Vibe myself. My league conditions are way dryer than I ever imagined they would be. My Pain and my Hawg Wild are over-reacting beyond my ability to control. Keep that in mind when you pick out a ball. If you are going to use a Pain on dryer conditions, you probably won't like it much. It wasn't made for dry.

Good luck in whatever you decide.

I agree with you about the Vibe being a very good ball to learn on, my first was a sling blade, but the vibe was the second strike ball i bought. I love it and I think you will too for your dry conditions, expect to just tear it up. The vibe eats up dry conditions and gives you so much pop it is hard to believe.

I personally would pick any ball you like. Because you can drill a Hawg Zilla to hook like a Vibe if you wanted. So you can tame the ball by the drill, but also it's better to learn how to tame it by throwing more aggressive and possibly playing the oil pattern.
My friend has a Hawg Zilla drilled for length and I have a Hawg Wild drilled for maximum Flare. Both balls react almost the same, it's just the Hawg Zilla is very jumpy. It doesn't know how to not over react. But like I said any ball would work, but for medium oil a Pain should be a good choice. If you drill it like you throw. "Things to keep in mind": number of revs, speed, where you play the ball. If you have high revs and low speed then you might want to drill it for lenght or minimum flare, but if you have high speed then you might do the medium flare or maximum flare drillings. It really depends on you. Ask a coach or bowling partner or your bowling alley driller to look at how you bowl and ask them what they think.
