try spreading your index finger away from your grips as well as moving it right next to your middle finger, doing the same for your pinky finger...also try tucking your pinky

good luck and good bowling!!

Finger position helps but spreading the index finger enables you to get alittle more turn on the ball. So does tucking the pinky . Tucking the pinky enables you to get a tighter grip also. Moving both the index finger and untucking the pinky and keeping them against you other fingers will enable you to make the shot with alittle less movement.

What I would try and siggest is taking a little turn off the ball combined with a less agreesive ball.

Why in the Wide World of Sports would you want to change your grip? This makes no sense at all. Okay,I CAN understand tucking a pinky, that's not that big a deal. But I'm with Bubba, change the ball, move SOMEWHERE,throw it with a little less turn, but don't fool around too much with your grip. One,your hand is used to holding the ball a certain way. Change that and hand problems could be a couple of games away. Two,changing your grip MAY result in swing changes. Bad,bad, bad. C. You can run into timing issues because all the other stuff changed. Your mind can't keep up with the changes,so it goes for what it knows. Your old grip and swing. Thumbs hang. Scores go down. Children cry. Women weep. You wind up selling pencil's in front of the lanes. Ugly. If you must change something go practice and change just ONE thing. Get used to it. Then change just one more thing. Practice some more. Go slow and give yourself time to adapt to the change.

Just amp up the speed,,, works for me.......... IF I find a lane that hasn't been over-oiled to the point where it won't break down

He doesn't want to bump the speed,Jedi. Any other ideas?

move the index finger right next to your middle finger, and spread the pinkey, it makes it very hard to turn on the ball.

I personally keep the same grip, just take alittle hand out of the ball along with less agressive ball and a lane adjustment

It's not as much fingers as it is thumb. For people who do not have several balls this is the way to combat changing conditions. To decrease hook, move the thumb closer to 11 o'clock (for right handers). In the old days when all balls were basically the same, (pancake weight block), it was all the bowlers had.

i always use same grip, same release, same everything. when it doesn't work i change my ball or move left. best way to get the results you want, in my opinion. like rowdy said, could mess you up real bad!

As the lanes break down I try to move a board or two to adjust. If for some reason there is a major breakdown, then I'll consider a ball change instead.

As a couple others mentioned I'm not big into messing with my release much other than tucking my pinkie finger.

who said they wanted to change grip, thought he was asking about finger positions, which work great if you practice them and learn when to use them.

For me to play down and in I need to change finger positions. I was just working on this with my coach last night.

My normal finger positions are:

1) Index finger away from middle finger and pinkie in against ring finger. That is my standard position for playing track or inside. It gives me some length and generates good amount of hook. [For this style I use BWs, HZ, and other strong balls]

2) Index finger in against middle finger and pinkie splayed out about inch. That is what I was working on last night to stand way right and play up the 6-8 board (or wherever -- going right up the lane) [This is my Cherry Vibe finger position]

3) Other finger position that I do on all spares is pinkie curled under.

That's how I roll!:D

To play up the boards I have to fight against "hitting" or "giving it the business." Changing finger positions allows me to throw a much straighter shot.

Interesting finger position for spares. That would increase side roll by altering tilt. Do you hook at spares or throw straight at them?

For most part I hook at left side spares and use spare ball at right side spares (I am right handed). In PBA experience I would use spare ball for all but sleeper spares.
