As some know I was throwing the ball with 2 fingers only. Some people on here gave me advice and told me to drop my thumb in and bite my bad scores for about a month or so. Get used to your thumb in and you will see a difference. Well coming from a 180 average, with 2 fingers, down to a high game of 70, before this weekend, I was getting discouraged. This weekend everything started to make sense and I did not shoot below a 111, with a high game of 136. To everyone that has helped me drop my thumb in the ball, thank you. I now know what yall meant.
Now, on to my question. I need to be more consistent now that I dropped my thumb in. Is this something that will happen as I keep practicing? Also I have noticed that I am leaving a lot of 10 pins, does anyone have any advice on how to avoid it the best I can? Any techniques for working on my spare game?

my revs and track vary a little each time i throw the ball. its because im just getting back into the game but i can definitely notice my inconsistency.
but if i cup the ball a little less, and stand to the right, and go for the stroker style, my shots are much more consistent (though not as fun to watch). it might be worth your while to start with a smaller hook with less revs, and practice so that you remain solid, all the way up to tweener or whatever is the most fun style for you. i like to watch women bowl because of their relaxed consistent stroker styles.
thumb or no thumb, the ball is released with the same motion in mind. you still have to be able to keep the ball cupped. i remember when i first started hooking, it wasn't easy to keep it cupped at first because i was using muscles i never used before. when you dont use a thumb you use different muscles. your muscles will conform as time goes.
one thing i know that helped me a ton was being a straight thrower as a kid. i became great at hitting the pocket throwing straight, spares were a breeze. averaged 180s~ than. so today i am able to throw it perfectly straight for spares, no revs. so these days i can pickup spares easily and its helped me drop the ball on the same board most of the time, so i only have to worry about my revs and track angle now.

Hammerhead. It will all come together for you in time. But it takes practice and patience. When you practice do not worry about your score. Concentrate on you release and consistantcy of it. Make sure with your thumb in the ball you stay under the ball as if your knuckles are going to drag on the floor. At the point of release next to your slide heel come through and around the ball in a counter clockwise motion. this will get you some more revs on the ball and be more consistant . It will also help on carrying those 10's.
