As I had mentioned before I am a relative novice to bowling and after some research bought a BW Bite. I just had it drilled to the skip layout.
Not sure why I chose it - I guess I wanted to be aggressive with this new ball.
Well the first game I rolled with my new ball-230 ! :D I was stoked- as it is my personal best ! Made me really pleased to see the welcome to the 225 club flash up on the board ! I took my time and went to grab a drink so my score stayed up a little longer on the board !
At my level 230 is a bit of an abberation and as wild thoughts of rolling my first 600 series danced in my head I came crashing back to earth ! Booo !!!!
Tossed up a cough , cough, 146 !! and followed that up with fairly realistic 186. But regardless I was really pleased to put my faith in Hammer. I love this ball ! It really drives through the pins but as I found out I am now prone to " Brooklyn " ! I hope I used that term correctly !
In my first game I scored really well by throwing alot of strikes. Didn't need to worry about very many pesky spares . In the subsequent games when I started to try to do too much I realized I had better order myself a Widow Clear ( naturally !) or some other plastic spare ball cause this Bite really likes to break hard ! It wasn't the normal ten pins or 7 pins but instead alot of 5's , 8's and 9's.
Anyway it was a really great day for me and it helped to justify my decision to become a Hammer-head. I will play, preach and praise this brand ! It helped make me feel great on the lanes and for a NOOB like me- thats rare and special !:)

Leaving 8 and 9 pins is the balls way of telling you to move left a little. The ball is rolling through the rack at the wrong angle. Move left(Assuming you're right handed) two boards and keep the same target on the lane. Keep moving two boards left until the strikes start coming again. You burned up the line you were using with that 230 game. No more-cough,cough-146's after a 230. Now go get that 600.

Rowdy, idk about 2 boards, if ur gonna move 2 boards left, i would move ur mark 1 board right. Just my opinion, and 8 pins just a wierd thing to leave, u probably should maybe get around the ball a bit more then.

congratulations on the 230 game. as the lanes breakdown it is very important to adjust and should come with time and experience for you. great job and keep it up!

nica,

you have some good advise here.

my average floats from 185-190

i have a problem with adjustments too.

if i'm hitting heavy or light in the pocket, it is simple for me to move forward or back 3-4 inches.
my adjustment problem is left and right. harder for me to guage.

always been told to move 1/2 board at a time, but drastic times require drastic measures.
my lines can detiriorate quickly.
i would say move your feet no more than 2 boards, THEN start to move your mark a board or 2.
try your adjustments back and forth like that.

Nica; congrats on the 230 . After that you said you tried to do too much. After throwing the Bite a few frames and it was not getting the results , that should indicate to you that it's time for an adjustment . Be it a lane adjustment or ball adjustment. Know when to adjust is the key. I know , we all tend to think it was something we did and still fight befoe adjusting and when we do it's usually to late. As time goes by and you learn to read the lanes you will knonwhen it's time to make an adjustment. When you practice , don't worry about score but while practicing and the lanes changes this is the time to learn when to adjust.

If I am showing a tendency to go Brooklyn should I make an adjustment a board or two left or perhaps take a half step backwards for my starting point ?
I tend to bowl at the same time every day and its on a med- heavy pattern so hopefully I am bowling under fairly consistent conditions.

If you are missing left, going high then move left.
if you are missing right, light, them move right.
always adjust your foot position in the direction of the miss.

I agree with VMS. The rule of thumb is , Miss Left , Move Left ---- Miss Right, Move Right.
