Leaving 10 pin alot

I have come a long way in the few weeks that I started to drop my thumb in the ball. I have noticed a lot of 10 pins being left and occasionally a 5 pin instead. Granted it has helped me with my spare game greatly, as I pick up the spare 90% of the time, but I would much rather see strikes than spares. How do I need to go about not leaving the 10 pin? The lanes over the weekend where different than normal. I used my BWP with Strong Drilling because the lanes where oiled pretty far down, more than normal. Usually they are medium to dry lanes.

can you tell what the three and six pins are doing when you leave the ten?

if the three is hitting on the back of the six then the six will miss the ten on the front. Light hit.

if the three is hitting on the front side of the six then the six will miss the ten on the back side. Heavy hit.

Options to correct:
move small increment right or left.
move starting stance forward or back six inches.

Leaving corner pins is an entry angle problem. Meaning, you're coming in a little light. So without being able to see what is happening with the rack on contact, there are a few simple things you can try...

1. Move back 4-6" from your normal starting point on the approach.

2. Move 1/2-2 board(s) left (for a righty, right for a lefty). Keep your mark the same. This should get you out of the oil alittle sooner (depending on your line) to get that ball charging back alittle stronger.

3. Get a different ball. Sometimes, moving on the lane will not correct the issue and getting a ball with alittle more surface will do the trick.

These are aimed at bringing you slightly higher on the headpin, and may rid you of those pesky corner pins that keep escaping the wrath of your ball.

VMS and Josh are correct, sounds like an entry angle issue, moving a board left or right or a step forward or back in your approach will fix the 10 pin leaves.

You said that they were oiled farther down. The ball might have not been rolling, it was still sliding when it hit the pins. That would cause 10's, 5's 8-10's, 7-10's, 5-7-10's.

USBC will conduct more testing this season using the high-speed camera and lighting system to further investigate entry and exit angles from the pin deck and to determine how that affects carry percentages.
