WARNING!!! I WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR DAMAGED BOWLING BALLS!!! YOU DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!Here's the deal. Go to Wally World, head for the paint department. Detour into the sandpaper section. Find 3M 320 grit purple pads. 2 pads for $1.47 plus tax. Buy pads, don't shoplift. Take ball outside and set up garden hose to run just fast enough to keep ball covered with water. Wet sand ball. EASY!!! You're just "knocking off" the shine. Since the pads are 3 inches by 6 inches they fit in your hand really well. Palm the pad and ball. Sand in a circular motion. Keep the ball wet at all times. One pad does about 5 balls. I did every one of mine and the BWP really moves on the backend now. 6 to 7 boards more on the backend. Both of my BWS's have about 4 to 5 more boards of hook on the backend. All in all,the best $1.47 plus tax I've spent on my gear.

320 Grit, can you say burned up if you have revs, low ball speed, no oil... guess this is down around the 500 Abralon for the conversion to the US grit rating....

This would be okay for Lower Track, High Skid Player, High Speed Bowler or if you need something to read the lanes earlier... quite a bit.

To knock the shine off, I just use a worn out scotchbrite pad, or a white one. That gets the polish off, without disturbing the surface much. 320 is pretty strong, and really alters a balls characteristics surface-wise.

I didn't say to grind it in there. Just wet sand LIGHTLY. I'm getting 4 to 5 more boards on the backend doing this. The balls are NOT reading early at all. And that's on synthetics with a burned up pattern and wood that had a good pattern put down.

4000 and 2000 Abralon. The balls kept their overall motion, just more backend snap. I sanded all the BWS's,the BWP(Lots better now)the BBP,and the Truck. I did not repolish the BWP. Rolled it first to see if I liked the reaction before I decided to polish. Rolled four in a row, cleaned it off with "Top Secret Ball Cleaner" and put it back in the bag. Where it sits, waiting for Sunday morning.

Right, generally I like the grey scuff pads (from Mirka).

Alright, just be careful... like you said, use little to no pressure and like you said water or some cleaner on the pad to knock off the oil glaze or oil shine.

To get the polish off, your best bet is to go with something a lot higher in grit, like around 2000 sand paper. 320 is way too much, and even with light pressure, you are still doing 320 grit, it just isn't going very deep.

Your reaction also depends on the lane oil. If the conditions are broken down, but the oil is carried down, the ball won't read as soon as normal.

I have an Ebonite NVS, and I sanded it down to 500 grit, then polished it back up. This ball will read the lane unless it has thick oil on it. Our house shot has thin oil from boards 1-10 and 30-40, thick oil in the middle. If the ball touches the thin oil, it reads and comes back in. Thats at 500 grit, polished. 320 sanded is just insane.

But, if you throw at about 20 mph, I guess its ok.
