Hey everyone. Happy New Year!
I took a leave of absence from the board for a while and have missed talking about bowling with you all.
Anyway, I haven't bought any new balls since my Anger but the thought is always out there to try something new. I guess I just take care of my balls and can't seem to wear them out.
I was in a rut for a while and recently came out of it. The house I bowl in recently replaced the surface of the approaches and alleys with a newer synthetic. I can't remember the name of the stuff.
The heads have some kind of new insulation under them which makes the ball bounce if you drop or loft it and they sound more like real wood and less like the old stuff.
The old lanes were Anvilite which is an extremely hard surface.
Well, needless to say, it took me about 4 bowling sessions to figure out how to bowl on the new surface. When I went to try the lanes for the first time, it was the morning after a league. The lane manager told me about the bounce factor and that I'd have to move about 4 boards left because the new surface hooks more.
Well, that was true until league night. The house adjusted the pattern to make it a little wider and slightly longer. I think they're close to 40 ft now. I found my line after the second game last night and it held up deep into the second shift league for me.
I only had to move a total of about 5 boards left all night. I just have to swing the ball out more. So, instead of playing down the 10 board like I used to, I need to throw it just inside 10 and out to about 4 and the ball comes back nicely. I have my feet (right foot) on anywhere between 20-26.
My Toxic was my ball that worked best on the pattern last night.
Anyway, it's good to be back. One of these days I'm going to upgrade my gear but I really can't justify it until I wear something out. For now, I'll continue to work on my game and I feel like my current arsenal is fine.
