Notice Hammer doesn't put up a promotion like that? Why you ask? because they are #1 on the market. Their equipment has been proven to be a winner. Looks like other companies are hurting for sales now doesn't it. Why else wouold they send emails out

This is something I was thinking about yesterday at the lanes. I got there same as always...the guy behind the counter saw me coming in and automatically set me up on a pair of lanes (proving Rowdy right about looks get you a lot further). Anyways, that's not the point.

I start bowling and notice this group of uncontrolable high school kids about 5 pairs down from me. They were acting like complete jackasses--one would run up to another while they were on the approach and try to mess up his/her shot by slapping, punching, pushing, throwing random objects at them, yelling--just general stupid crap.

Normally I'd either shake it off as just kids being kids or I go over and tell them to knock it off. While I was looking over at them trying to figure out what the hell was wrong with their brains, I spot them...a ball return FULL of Hammers.

I didn't notice the ball types right away, mostly because they were so beat-up and in need of maintenance that it was hard to read the logos. They were filthy--a Hawg that hasn't been cleaned EVER looks a lot like a No Mercy at first glance because of the oil build-up. There was not a rag anywhere to be found for wiping the ball off between shots.

I understand how it's a good thing that Hammer is the top selling brand...but at what price. Its a double edged sword. I was under the impression that being a Hammerhead meant that you have a certain amount of respect for the sport and those who play it. I was just wondering how it must look to someone who is contemplating joining the Hammerhead Nation, to have a group of horse's-asses behaving the way they were and throwing Hammers. I have always been a strong proponent for not going with the flow. I don't generally like anything that is popular, I HATE cliques and never wanted to be a part of the "cool" group.

So I thought I would put this out there for you guys to discuss. Do you see these types of things in your houses? What would you say to that young man/woman coming into the sport? "Don't mind those guys, they're not REAL Hammerhead faithful." Because now you sound just as pompous and arrogant as the other guy. Don't get me wrong, I love Hammer products and have no intention of using another manufacturer's gear. I guess I am wondering if its just me seeing these things and making "mountains out of mole hills" or is this the early stages of a much larger trend?

Thanks for letting me vent.:D

All of the yo-yo kids who act stupid at the allies I play it do not roll custom equipment, they take the 8 lb house balls, cup them in their hands (and do not use the holes), and crank them to get hook. The people who throw hammers, etc are serious bowlers where I go. But I do agree with you, kids like that are annoying. I am only 19, so its not like I can go up to them and say cut it out. Ally owners need to crack down on that riffraff.

Morgan you bring some good points in your thread. But at the houses around here that I bowl in , the College group comes in after 9:00pm. Not one has a bowling bag with something in it. The teens come inon SAat. nights and I would be safe to say 1 out of 30 has a bag. These types are just out to have fun and get rowdy.

Now on the other hand I see the youth bowlers on Sat mornings and afternoons and every single one has a bag with a brand name ball in it. Not one is causing any problems. I see the same kids out with their parents bowling and their heads are in the game. Beside if kids acted up in the houses around here like what you saw, they would be politely asked to leave.

And yes, if I were to see someone acting up like that I would ask them to stop because they are disturbing the people on the other lanes.

I really don't think I would have to say anything to that young man/woman coming into the sport because they probably can determine those people are jerks without anyone explaining it to them.

People who use brand name balls like that are not giving Hammer a Bad name. They are giving the sport a bad name. Ebonite / Hammer / Morich / Brunswick / Columbia / Global 900 and so forth are chosen to use by Bowlers. Not by imature people who know nothing on how to act in public.

I think they are more giving their age group a bad name. When I golf during the inexpensive times, I often see teens golfing, and some of which goof around, slow play up, break rules, damage greens, etc. I don't get upset at Nike, Callaway, or any other brand of club they wield, nor do I get upset at the sport of Golf, I instead get upset at the age group, and find myself saying things like "Stupid 13 year olds..." etc.

okay, first just because they have hammer bowling balls does NOT mean that they are hammerheads. anyone can go out and buy a hammer ball if they want. also i really don't think that a bowling ball defines a person on how respectful they are about the sport. obviously it's their attitude, sportsmanship, eagerness to help others and competitive nature. i have much love and respect for this sport just like everyone on here. i roll hammer, but if i hadn't chosen hammer as my brand, i would be the same way with another company. i go bowling with a crowd that loves morich and storm. they are just as respectful as me. so in conclusion, doesn't matter what brand you throw it's your own level of commitment to the sport that defines you as a bowler. in my opinion a true hammerhead is someone that uses hammer because it fits their personal needs and they are loyal and will defend hammer against other brands. that's all. we are all going to run into a group of noisy, immature people eventually and unless they are directly causing you harm, you should just block them out. or if you really feel the need to intervene then you could politely ask them to stop. if that doesn't work then you could notify the front desk that the group is causing problems. remember violence or any crude language involving threats is NOT how a serious bowler should go about solving problems at the lanes. :)

If I know Bubba,he was trying to keep the thread from getting out of hand, that's all. He knows how emotional we get sometimes about our Hammers.

Nope it wasn't because I was trying to stop the thread from getting out of hand, trust me there is alot of that going on and I am trying to stop it.

My CASE CLOSED Phrase was direced to mean my opinion on this matter is closed.

HB, you are intitled to your opinion anytime.

Well, I come here and throw in my 3 cents worth (got a raise) and I am not really a Hammerhead. I throw various equiptment and I like most of it. What I dont like, I sell. I dont put any emphasis on what kids do nowdays. I have a 19 yr old and a 14 yr old and I sometimes hate what they do, but I dont get mad at Calvin Klein because my daughter wont cover her butt crack most of the time. Its the way the kids are and we can only be amused or ignore it. And I can tell you this, it aint going away soon. Kids in general (not all) do not have respect for things or people the way some of us old guys did when we were that age. Its just the way it is America and I'm Paul Harvey...

Jerks are jerks, whether they are bowling or golfing, driving or posting on the hammer forums.

Do your thing and don't get effected by others.
