what is the best way to go after picking up a 7-10 split for a right hander? i have had a few lately but i can't seem to get close.

The best chance for converting the 7-10 split is to throw hard at the 10 pin and hope it bounces out of the back off the curtain over to the 7 pin. You got to get just the right bounce.

I heard that you should go hard at the inside of the 7 pin and try to bounce it off (for a righty) the left side wall so it kicks back across. The curtain is designed to absorb the hard impact of the ball and drop it down so I find it hard to believe that it would work trying to bounce it off the curtain.

The best split I ever picked up was the 8-10 but that was done by tapping the left side and making it slide across (lefty), the 7-10 is one of those where you can stratigize all day but it boils down to pure 110% luck.

i've picked the 7-10 both ways, by throwing hard at the 10pin and also hard at the 7 pin. been lucky to pick it 4 times so far, and picked up the 4-6-7-10 "big 4" once.

would a lighter ball help so you can get more velocity on the ball? ive converted 8-10s a couple times but no 7-10s. but i dont get many of those far apart splits anyways

i've tried going at the 10 and the 7 but the closest i have gotten was with the 10 pin. i hit it on the right side of the pin and it was short probably a foot from hitting the 7. i have picked up the 8-10 and other split many times but they are a lot easier. when i throw for spare shots i definitely don't spin the ball as much as a strike ball, i'm wondering if i should try to stand way left and hook a ball into the 10 pin to get it to move. i've noticed the pins seem to jump around a lot more when i'm throwing for a strike.

Throw hard and hope for the bounce off the sideboard or out of the pit.

Tip: Throw the shot as soon as the sweeper bar starts to move. There will still be pins in the pit to bounce off of. Don't wait or stare at it. Grab the spare ball and let it fly as soon as possible. I've made the 7-10 six times doing that. And never hit the sweeper bar.

haha okay. now that's some smart thinking. i throw my spare shots pretty hard so hopefully i'll be able to pick one up this year. thanks again everyone.

When I picked the 7 10 out of a full rack (yes only the 7 and 10 fell). I pulled the crap out of my strike shot and missed my mark by 8 boards. I thought it was in the gutter so I didn't even look but I guess I clipped the left side of the 7 enough to have it wrap and pop the 10.

That being said I bowl with a south paw that throws very hard. Many time when he shoots the 10 pin I've seen it bounce around to where the 10 would be...

So when I get the 7-10 as a righty, I try for the 7 (unless I want the 10 pin practice).
