Ok guys, I dont think the pattern has been released yet, but in the USBC magazine I just got, it does state that the 2008 USBC Open Championship shot is going to be Sport Shot Certified. That tells me that the rumors were right that the pattern will be longer and flatter. Anyone agree or disagree with this statement ? Let me know what you think. Its on page 54

meh...
Re-read the article. it states that the open pattern has been sport compliant for the past few years. they just made it official this year.

In the same magazine, under Building an arsenal, it also makes reference to the shot being more so toward sport bowling this season. I dont care mind you, but I think they will in effect eliminate about half the field that did have a chance to start with if they go more toward the heavier ,flatter patterns due to the fact that most do not play on them. They are doing nothing but putting this tourney right in the hands of the regional players by doing this. They usually bowl well anyway, but this makes them even a heavier favorite.

I agree with Stampy on this. USBC has to be careful on what they do. The risk loosing alot of entrants by doing this. Imagine the league bowlers aged 60+ trying to play the open or a sport pattern.

This will effect the mental game more than anything else. Some people just don't think they can score on these patterns.

The Pattern will probably not be much different than the past few years. This is probably more of a marketing thing than anything.

As long as they design good playable pattern, thats not part of the PBA Experience. Think most people expect a challenge. Dont think it has to heavier oil like we all probably get in the middle of lanes at league... cough cough 60 units and 3 units outside... for a nice 20:1 bumper shot.

They announced that they where using Sport Compliant pattern this Last Summer. (I believe.)

Think everyone has shot, most seniors lost revs and speed, so they should be able to hook it. Plus, several alley around the country will lay this patterns out for practice sessions. Personally, they should provide the pattern, so everyone has a chance to get some practice in before the start of the Tournament. JMO.

Hmmm... The majority of those guys aren't wall babies. They play straight and are accurate. On a tough pattern, I'd much rather face a 20 something that likes to hook the ball!

I expect the pattern to be 39 to 41ft, with 19 to 21 ml of oil. Moderate length, moderate oil.

Think I'll agree, this is "OUR" association's National Championship... No Bumper Bowling allowed.

Think everybody who bowls the tournament excepts a challenge.

When I stated about the older generation bowling on these patterns, I was referring to their mental outlook. It is natural to think that they will not score . But I am a firm believer most if not 95% of them go to have fun no matter what. Last year in Reno is was a difficult shot. Then it seems they opened the shot up alittle so the scoring would come in.

I expect to see a heavier concentration of oil on the inside and at the same time not as dry as they used to be on the outside. When they announce the pattern I expect to see people playing somewhere between second and third arrows with just a 2 or 3 board swing.

I predict it will be 44 feet not flat but crowned towaeds the outside with alittle more than usual oil on the outside.

You don't think they'd be shutting out the low rev guys with a 44ft pattern?

Yep they will. It will all be on accuracy and carry then. And who can get a team of guys together disciplined enough stick with the plan and break it down and then just rip it up ! I think guys like Righels and his buddies will walk away with another eagle this year if the shot is 44 ft and mostly flat. Thay also have the equiptment to do what they need to do. See I think that the shot last year was easy ! I know that sounds arrogant, but its not. It just fit into my game and I carried well. I am not a cranker but I played deep inside and had a ball ! If I was a bit more accurate, I could have shot around 2000, but hey 1800 aint bad at Reno from what I hear. My main goal is to make my money back in bowling AE, and then any I make in Brackets is just gambling fun money. If I get my $150 back, I am good to go.

I didn't think the shot was hard last year, but carry sure was!

Yea, I just had the right piece of equiptment in my hand all week and that rarely happens ! I threw that ball in a single tote as I was walking out the door that week. I wasnt planning on taking it ! Dumb Luck huh !;)

Kegel lists last years pattern as 40 ft, 3.52 ratio with 23.25 mls of total oil. By no means a house wall.
