You only need 9 pins on your first ball to get a strike.

That means, if you get 9 pins on the 1st ball, its a strike, you sit down and wait til next frame. If you dont get at least 9, you finish out the frame as usual. In my case, if I have 2 or 3 of those not getting at least 9's in a game, I go directly to bar and pass many beers and do not collect prize money ! LOL

A 9 count will actually count as a strike. I bowled in one this past weekend, pretty fun, although most of misses resulted in leaving 2 or 3 pins.

Yea, most guys find out that 9 pins become much harder than we would like to think they are. The ones I have won are because I go there and use it as a practice session and do not try to get 9 ! Thats the worst thing you can do, just try to throw strikes

That sounds like a modified no tap format. The ones I've bowled in were strictly a 9 count on first ball = strike. No waiting to see what you do on your next ball. They even program the pinsetters to clear the rack on a 9 count and the computers to score 9 counts as strikes.

9 pins on first ball sounds easier than it is at least for me usually get 8.
My son when he was 8 bowled a 300 on his leagues fun day thing of it is 7 of them were real kind of made me a little jealous. the thing was he was just throwing the ball to get strikes and not thinking of anything else.

We have a big NO-TAP tourney in my area every year. $5,000 first place.scoring and you have to pick up the spare

9 on first ball is a strike. X on first ball is a strike. Any other leave on first ball counts as normal scoring and you have to pick up the spare.

Plus optional jackpots and a progressive stike jackpot that goes by avg. for I think it's over $20,0000.00 right now.

Not so fast. When you are rolling you will notice that some strikes on the automatic scorer may be in different colors. White ones are usually "natural" strikes, ten pins down on the first ball. Red ones are when you only knock down nine pins. It's used as a tiebreaker. Most white X's wins.

We kid around at our local No Tap Tourney. Ours doesn't show different colors for a no tap than a normal strike . Our scorers show an X for regular and NT for a no tap strike. We kid around and say the NT stands for No talent.:D

Ooohh, that smarts. You and Idle see a lot of those "NT's" do ya? I see 90% white strikes myself. Those red ones are the balls fault. (Whistling as I walk away.)

Nah I dont bowl in that tournament, dont get any handicap so its pretty pointless unless the team goes nuts, you'll have the 170 averages guys come in and have 800 and you cant touch them.

He threw well in it last year, but he doesnt get any handicap either, his average is just as much as mine, maybe a little less but Im not sure.
