Hi, I've just come back to bowling after a long lay off,and after reading plenty of reviews I decided to buy a BWB...

The problem is I cant get the ball to hook,it just slides. It has been drilled 'skid flip' and our lanes are dressed to 38feet.I dont think my release is the problem as I've never had any trouble hooking a ball before.I have only bowled 10 games with it (7 in practice,3 in league) and on my league night I bowled 10 board over 2nd arrow and struggled to make the pocket..I was expecting alot more movement than that.I spoke to the person who drilled the ball and he was suprised that I was struggling with it...

Any ideas or advice would be appreciated

Thanks

The layout you have should make athe ball real strong. What style of a bowler are you? How fast do you throw. Playing 10-2 on a 38 foot pattern , the ball should move. It just might be a little hand position change. What is your rev rate? You could try playing a little straighter or make a surface adjustment . We need alittle more info .

give some more info, bubba would def know...

but I had a similar problem and yours looks drilled similar to mine, I throw high speed with lower revs...and took it down to 1000 grit and that was the ticket for me.

I have a fairly high rev rate and ball speed (dont have exact figures).I have tried a couple of diferent releases - thumb at 10 o'clock,11 o'clock and at 12 o'clock aswell as cupping my wrist a bit more.I am altering the suface tomorrow to 1000 abralon before practice.

I've just found out that the lanes have synthetic heads and the rest of the lane is wood. The centre are putting 10% extra oil down to combat absorbtion on the wooden part of the lane,so the heads have a lot of oil on them.

Hope this is a bit more helpful.

like said before that is a strong backend ball... mine bwp is drllled the same way and i have no problem paying those boards your trying to play.... the lanes might be messing with you a bit .. go to another house and thorw the same lines and see the outcome b4 you take the ball down to 1000

I had the same problem with my NMB, I had it OOB, 2000, 1000, 500 and 360. Couldn't get it to move for any thing. I was ready to chunk it in the trash but decided to give Hammer a call. Talked to Ron Sr. and he suggest that it might be burning up to quick. I followed his advice and took it to 1000 and polished the fire out of it. WOW, totally different ball. I can play outside, inside straight up the middle. Point is, don't give up if the surface adjustment doesn't work. Be prepaired to polish it up a bit if it still doesn't move.

This is something I have touched on before. Some people confuse burnt up lanes with the ball not hooking. Last night my Cell was killing the pocket after 5 or 6 frames but no carry. I went to the Bite which goes longer and Bam, all is well. Its just another thing to learn as you progress in this game. Most people think if the lanes are dry the ball will hook more. This is not neccesarily true. I need more oil to make my stuff store up energy at the back end.

believe it or not, I had to put around 30 games on my pearl, and bite before either would hook, and now my bite is awesome !!!

Have a similar layout with my Bite and Pearl. I also used to have issues getting it to hook. I was real sporadic. Finally figured out that some nights I was getting more hand into the ball so I got more revs. Now I conciously think about it in my pre shot routine. I try to basically palm the ball once my fingers and thumb are in.

the only way i've been able to get anything consistant out of it is to use my cobra wrist strap...unfortunately for me i dont like using it :( .but it makes me think its something to do with my release or the way i hold the ball..i sanded it down to 500 abralon and it was reading the lane very early so i've gone back to 4000..im going to practice now so i'll see how it goes and see if i need to make another change before my league on wednesday night..

my dad got a BWP in september and is only now really starting to feel comfy with it.
