The red dot you are talking about must be the pin? Id assume so..
Different pin positions will just make the ball react sooner, go longer, more snap, less snap, etc. You shouldnt release the ball any different just because of a pin position, nor should you change your approach due to it

steve would you know exactly what that pin position would do with my ring finger right beside the pin position

Did you take a look at the drilling layout sheet (http://hammerbowling.com/tech_info/detail.php?drilling=Black%20Widow%20Drilling%20Ins tructions)
You may be able to match up a layout with what you have, then read the description of what it does. My driller drilled my BWS without watching me or asking for a layout as well, but it worked out (besides my finger issue I am having now).

uberamd ya my layout would be number 4 length with smooth arc how would you go about throwing that on the lanes which boards and arrows

I am a lefty so this is from my perspective:
I would stand between second and third dot, throw it between the second and third arrow, and expect it to come in on the backend. If you are a slower speed stroker (like me), with length and backend I would also try to stand on the second dot, throw over the second arrow, and let it arc in. However, I understand the BWB has a sharper, earlier break than the BWS, so it would benefit you likely to throw it out a bit and let it come back in, if you have that ability.

Ok, now I am gonna sound like Rowdy, but for goodness sakes, just go out and throw the ball and figure some things out for yourselves guys. Believe it or not even us guys with a lot of the answers go out and experiment with diff things. This is the way you will learn. You have to experience things for yourself. If he tells you to play it like he does and it doesnt work, then what do you do ? Come back on here and ask someone else ? Come on guys ! Use that brain god gave you plz. We dont mind helping, but you gotta think for yourselves too

Yes, stampy was right playing around is the best thing to do. At the same time its nice to see/hear what you should be working at.
So, if you are going brooklyn, adjustments need to be made. I got my elite black label drilled up today, and throwing it straight second dot second arrow caused me to brooklyn every time. Solution? I started standing on the 3rd dot, throwing between arrows 2 and 3, and it came back and hit the pocket perfectly. I read the situation, and adjusted. Thats the best thing to do, play around with it. Today I played 12 games trying different things, I was there for 2.5 hours, and got a lot accomplished as well as learned a lot about how my BWS and EBL react.

Nice job uberamd, thats a good productive practice session. I always recommend that you keep a notebook also. I cant always remember what each ball does on all conditions (maybe an indicator that I have too many ! LOL)

Thanks! It was productive, however I did split open the side of my finger, and then after posting here discovered that the pitch in my 1 week old BWS is probably for a righty (I am a lefty) thus causing my problem.
But overall it was great, I had a blast despite the problem and tomorrow I will play 3-5 more games before league monday to see if I can replicate what I did today. Sadly I will need to use my new Elite I had drilled up today and bag my Widow because I can't stand using it with the finger issue.

I dont know, I agree with what Stampy said, trial and error is a great thing with this game and it will help you learn a lot of things about your game.

The thing is, yes practice, practice, practice!!! But helping a guy out is not a bad thing. I've been bowling for 25 years probably should know more than I do, but with the way the oil has changed, lanes are different wood or synthetic, coverstocks are different. Come on I started bowling with a Black Angle, now have a BWS "luv it" but I want to know how to do certain things so I ask and some times get treated like its a pain:mad: I agree with eightball033. just ignore the post don't say we've answered that 15 times already. yes most of us know how to bowl but do we know all there is to know I doubt it. What would it hurt to help someone out who then in turn may be able to help you or someone else.

Agreed.
I love asking people stuff on forums, especially when its on a topic I am passionate about. Sure I could look at paper, but I would much prefer to hear what the bowling community has to say, hear their opinions on my layout for example, etc.

I didnt say dont ask or read about it, But you have to go try a few things first, because the guys in here are going to ask you questions too. You have to be able to help them answer your questions. I wasnt being hard on him in particular anyway. It was just a general statement towards lots of the new guys. I love to help when I can, but you guys are the next generation of helping souls for bowling. We help you by learning from our experiences, so you are also going to need them. Thats all I was getting at. I mean, what the heck, when I drill a new ball, I am too excited to ask anyone anything about it, I want to just roll it !

but you can sometime roll and dont know what to look for if not taught properly, you can practice and not practice correctly, and waste alot of time,we all have to crawl before we walk(roll),so all im saying in the begining we have alot of zeal and no knowledge, and we are never totally there, always learning,so imo, lets be patient because thats how we learned some of what we learned, thats all i was saying, its all good,i have learned alot here in short time, yes i have to apply it and im still learning:cool:
