A few people in the house I bowl at have them, and only one guy likes it... mainly because his thumb hole was drilled to large.
Personally, I don't like it makes my thumb stick. If you are having pain with your thumb, you may need to have your thumb hole in your ball tweaked a bit.

if you wish to use it you need a considerably larger hole. i take mine with me cuz sometimes i'll meet someone who has a larger thumb than me. i slap the thumb saver on and try their ball out.

BTW they come in left and right handed

If you need one there's something wrong with the thumbhole in the ball. Too large, pitch wrong etc.
