I do, and I bowl much better since I started doing it. I used to muscle the ball on my down swing, but it would put a ton of pressure on my wrist, so I would either have a bad release, or miss my mark.

Ok, I've been meaning to ask this for awhile, but I've been waiting for the right moment. This idea of a "free arm swing" sounds like a great one, but I'm baffled. I would love someone to clarify this for me. If I'm 5'10 and bring the ball to the height of the top of my head in the back swing, let it free swing, and it rolls 14mph, it should always be the same, everytime. I get that. My problem is this. I see this huge guy on our Friday night league with what I consider a free arm swing. Brings it back, lets it fall. He always throws right around 15.5mph. He throws 15lbs by the way. Then I see these videos and other bowlers claiming to have a free arm swing, throwing ditch to ditch at
18, 19 and even 20mph. That is impossible. I know I usally muscle my shots, and I'm in the 17mph range. PLEASE, someone enlighten me.

You have to start up higher in the push away, then as the ball drops you lean foreward some (I do at least) and it gets higher, then you let it drop and it will be alot faster than you expect. I usually have to move back on the approach to let my arm cycle match up with my feet because it gets longer when I do this.

Theres more factors than just your arm swing when it comes to determining the ball speed. Like how high the swing is, how fast the approach is how fast the arm is moving ........so on and so on

This is one of the things Ive been working on for a while now. Its been almost 2 months since I started using one and my avg. has risen buy 20 pins. I would recomend this to anyone. My problem was I was over powering the ball and for a big guy thats not hard to do. If you have troble with hitting your mark and throwing the same shot over and over then I would advise this as a way to get out of those bad habits. This along with not lofting the ball and looking at a closer mark will improve anyones game.

I've been trying to work on this ALOT.

Per the speed sensors at my house, I typically throw between 12 and 13 mph. In order to get higher than 14 I feel like I need to throw everything I have and usually end up all but falling over from doing so. There must be something simple that I'm doing wrong/forgetting/w/e.

I'll get there one day...
