I purchased a No Mercy ball back in September and love it. But I noticed that right around where the rubber finger inserts are the ball had started to chip just a bit. Then on Sunday a bigger piece came off the ball again right by the inserts. Think very small shard of glass shaped. Is this normal? Can it be fixed?

That will very commonly happen if the edges of the insert hole weren't slightly sanded down. If the edges are left sharp, chipping will almost always happen.
As for fixing it, the sooner the better. The insert has to be removed and the hole drilled out, plugged and redrilled.

I have been told this is caused by glue getting close to the coverstock. I bet one of the pro shop guys can chime in...
The only ball this has happened to me on is my Tuff.

Yes super glue can cause it. But like Cobalt said, the sharp edges are a more common cause.

Yes, super glue attacks the coverstock, but thats why you don't use a ton of glue. A small bit will work fine. Plus, its not aggressive enough to destroy the coverstock anyhow.

Which has a plastic cover, not reactive. Superglue won't attack it.

My BWP finger holes started to cip on the bottom edge. Two small chips one on each hole. I do not use grips . But I also do not have alot of vevel on my finger holes so the chipping is due to the sharp edges.
If the chips on the edge of your finger holes are ghetting bigger, get them fixed as soon as possible. If youi don't, they will get bigger and bigger and it will be too late to fill them and redrill

I am amazed a 1/4" gash in a ball is not as bad as having chips by the thumb hole. What is the long term problem?

The chips by the thumb hole with eventually get bigger or there will be more in the future. If you do not tget them fixed you stand the chance of them giving you thumb problems such as cuts or irritation. And if they get too big, it will be harder for the pro shop to fix them if they could at all.

The ding in the ball won't rip your thumb up if left untreated. And a 1/4 inch ain't a gash,it's just a small nick.
