Title says it all! I have emailed and called several people close to me. The only coach to respond to me is about an hour to an hour and a half away. He told me he would be more than happy to coach me, but he is afraid that all the time and money to get there would be more than the actual lesson. How often is that list updated? Is there anywhere else to find a coach close to me? If only Pete McCordic coached, I practically live next door to him. Any suggestions on what to do would help too. Thanks in advance guys!

I'm not sure about the USBC site, but I would suggest looking in the centers you bowl at. Talk to the pro shop guy, other bowlers in your leagues, etc.. A good coach doesn't necessarily need to be USBC certified. I have worked with a few coaches, and the one that was USBC Silver and Ritger certified plain sucked. You might find a group that gets together to practice and helps each other out. Just some ideas to think about.

The biggest thing is find a coach you trust and get along with... or else it's a complete waste of time.
You want someone who understands the modern game. (Certified does not matter, I think certification is a good thing though.)
The with the USBC find a coach, is those are the guy who pay to be a part of the coaches association.
I'm a USBC Certified Level 1 Coach and I'm not listed, for the above reason... I choose not pay.

Thanks for the help guys. I emailed a guy and he emailed me back. He is a bronze level coach close to me. How does going about getting help from a coach work? He charges $15 per lesson, I think that is good. Do I pay him and the alley to use a lane? Sorry I am new to the coaching thing and just want a heads up before getting started.
It depends on the agreement between the coach and the center. I would ask him about the lineage.

$15 is a good rate. I usually pay $40/hr. I pay $1 per game since like Slap mentioned, my coach has an agreement with the center.

That's awesome. I've always had the privilege of being around more competitive bowlers and benefitted from shared knowledge. I'd always figured I get a coach once I felt I got as much as I could from those guys

$15hr is a fair rate. I'd say no more than two lessons a month to get started. There should be a few weeks seperation to allow you some time to work on the suggestions.

Rates from coach to coach, and region to region. Rates around here are also about $40 and up.
