Just a question, how many 300's or 800 sets have been thrown in your house this year? to date there have been zero in the house I throw in, which leads me to my next question, if USBC is pushing for the shot to be as similar as possible across the houses, how come some houses have 1-2 a week and others none? Are houses with wood lanes tougher (more corners left) then sync lanes or vise versa...
I bring this up as USBC does away with awards for high scores/sets and makes them life time awards, so rewards for most of us will not exist. I'm just curious as to what your house is doing...ie making it tough or making it easier

We have about 10-15 300s and around 5 800s

I am going to go out on a limb and say that most houses are going to be different from each other...especially from what I've read on here. Also, the quality of bowler is going to vary greatly from house to house. The house I am currently bowling at for my league only has a couple of competitive leagues (and no sport shot leagues). So the number of 300's and 800's are going to be low for this house and opposed to one across town that has highly competitive leagues almost every night and a number of sport shot leagues.

Welcome to the wonderful world of The House Shot. Some houses feel that they have to "help" their bowlers achieve inflated scores by laying down a shot that is very dry on the outsides. Hence the term of derision,"bumper bowling". Miss to the outside and the ball will hook back off the dry. Any hack can, and does, score at these places. A 200 average means nothing in these houses.
Other houses realize that laying down such an easy shot does nothing to further either the house's or the bowlers reputation as accomplished bowlers. Look at the past winners of the team events at the Open and which house they came from. If you watched the Earl Anthony Classic, you were looking at Lava Lanes in Medford,Oregon. Lava Lanes sends at least two full teams to the Open every year. Those guys clean house. Think Lava Lanes has a House Shot? Not on your life.
