would the fact that the oil sat for 12 hours make any difference than if it were just layed down.

Not really. The stuff just sits on top of the lane anyway. Some guys swear the stuff evaporates, but I have yet to see oil do that. Now if it got hotter than hell overnight, you might see some migration to the less oiled areas, but it would have to get way over 100 degrees for that to happen.

If you bowl on wood lanes I know it makes a difference. It also matters at the temperature of the oil, I say yes it does matter. The wood house thing is huge though. We find that if lane oil is allowed to sit, it will hold up better on wood.

I say it makes a difference that is not noticeable enough for a non PBA player. Heck, you get practice time before most leagues, 15 minutes (in my league) is plenty of time to pick up on the trend of how the lanes are working.

15 minutes?????? I always thought there was a set time on how much time you could practice before league, I know all 3 of the leagues I was in it was 8 minutes or 7 I forget but all of them were one or the other.

Both of the leagues I have been in (current one is sanctioned) turn the lanes on at 6:00 PM, and call to start play at 6:15. That gives me plenty of time to see whats going on, I can throw 5-10 frames in that time period depending on how many people on the other team are practicing as well.

I gotta agree with Stampy and Rowdy on this. Depending on the surface it makes a difference. It is more noticable on wood surface than synthetics. But synthetics will show a change depending on how long the oil sat. It also depends on the temp and humidity also. I know the house where I bowl put down a PBA shot in the summer and they layed the pattern in the early afternoon. No one played on it untill 8:00pm. The Shark hooked lkike crazy on syntetic surface after sitting all day. The next week the layed the pattern down an hour before and it was totally different. Played like the Shark should play.
As for practice time. The leagues I bowl in start practice at 6:22pm and play starts at 6:30 pm. 8 mins is all you get.

we get 10 minutes. With two teams standing up there trying to practice I don't get loose for a couple of frames.

Our practice time starts at 10 in the morn, or around it. It depends on if the girl is busy with giving out change. Then it sorta ends when they feel like it.

We start off at 6:35p.m.,practice for 8 min.,so thats at least 2-3 shots on each lane. Then its either sink or swim from then on.....

I wonder how long people would practice if the girl just kept busy.

I wonder how long people would practice if the girl just kept busy. We get no less than 15 min, and depends on if any late bowlers coming in during practice are getting change to pay the fee, if they are we get a bit more, i think the one day we got 25 min for practice. I was happy because i burned a spot in and made myself room.
back to the original topic... i am going to be practicing on fresh oil three days this week to get ready for a tournament. we will be practicing before the guy that oils gets there so hes going to oil them before he leaves the night before. the following day i have the tournament. they will oil the lanes right before that begins.
the lanes are wood. its in michigan so the heat will probably be on all night. what can i expect to be different?

Not much. The line may last a little longer than normal, but that's about it. Is the tournament going to be on the same pattern as what you're practicing on?

Rowdy, im sure it will be. its just a high school tournament and they never do anything fancy for those... they are oiling the lanes just for us on those practice days and they know we are practicing for the tournament.
JaraTo, im in farmington hills
