A local center in Duluth MN is holding a tournament. This will be my first tourny; my buddy and I are doing doubles and I am also doing singles after. The pressure is on. Should be a good time.

Hey I completely forgot about this 11 month old thread, but I ended up paying $40, and months later I got $80 of checks in the mail, turns out I did alright and ended up doubling my entry fee.
The tournament is in a few weekends from now again, hopefully I'll do similar.
This brings up a question, my average last year was 154. The tournament entry sheet (USBC sanctioned) asks for last years average. Does that mean the handicap they give me will be based off the 154? If so, I will feel a bit bad since my average this year is ~172 (and over the last few weeks I have been averaging ~195).

You might want to double-check the rules for the tournament and see if there is a re-rating rule (if this year's average is 10 pins higher than last years, you use this years instead) as a lot of tournaments use this rule. If not, then it sounds like you can use last year's average and that'll help you out a little bit. It may give you a little more handicap than you think you deserve, but trust me, you'll still have to throw the ball well to win or even cash!

Actually same exact thing for me. i didnt fill out the average, but my last years book was a 153, my current is 175, and I have average around 1 580 series every week for 5 weeks leading to the tourney. I asked and they said it was last years average, so a lot of people are going to be lower. Anyways, for our division and day that i bowled doubles with my friend, we took 3rd. idk about overall, but for our day, we took 3rd. I bowled a 204, 148 (eh, just lost it) 216. For doubles. Singles I bowled- 166 (over average but trashy still) 212- 180. Singles was 568 and idk what I placed (not top 5) and doubles was lower but my partner rolled a 611, so we took 3rd. This tournament is a youth awards tournament, so I dont get money, but possibly a plaque and stuff along that line. Don't feel guilty, take advantage of it!

Check if the tournament has the 10 pin rule in effect, if they do then you have to use this years average. Otherwise you get away with using last years one.

Whats crazy is I thought I did crappy at the tourney. I left with a bleeding blistered thumb and a feeling of disappointment. But when i got money in the mail it was all good :)
And the entry sheet just asks for the 07-08 average, says nothing about 10 pins, etc.
