Bama Vol

Recently our association had a Scotch Doubles Tourney. It was a blind draw for partners and turned out to be a lot of fun. The problem was that the rules were not very precise and we had some confusion during the tenth frame. How does a S.D.T. work? Do the bowlers just alternate every other throw? Thanks in advance for your input.

My parents used to bowl in a S.D. league and it was just a matter of alternating shots so I would assume the tourney would work the same way.

No. In your case with a blind draw the two of you would decide who rolls the first ball in the first game. Lets say you got the nod to go first,Bama. In the first game you would roll the first ball in EVERY frame. If you strike, your partner doesn't roll. You leave some pins, your partner picks up the spare. In the 10th frame you would roll first, get a strike and keep rolling. Leave some pins and your partner shoots. say he picks up the spare, then it's your turn for the last ball. In the second game you switch and your partner rolls the first ball in every frame. This is why Scotch Doubles always plays an even number of games for a series.
Alternating every other shot isn't Scotch Doubles,it's called an alternate shot format, and it's just what the name implies. You roll one ball I roll the next ball, regardless of score. This format can be any number of games, but it's usually three games for a series.
Hope this helps.

Rowdy, our school scotch doubles tourny wasn't like that. We bowled 3 games and if you struck, your partner then threw the first ball until they struck.
